Press Pass jumps on Parks & Recreation license

One of TV’s top shows is coming to cards.

Press Pass announced its newest license for Parks and Recreation while at the Industry Summit in Las Vegas last week. Press Pass had licenses in the entertainment field before with Elvis and Kiss cards. But this takes the company – which usually focuses on racing and football – in a different direction.

“It’s a business we’ve eyed for quite awhile now. We wanted to find a property we felt had some good momentum to kick things off,” said Press Pass’s Tom Farrell, vice president of product development. “Pop culture has been on such a role, from autograph heavy sets to numerous entertainment sets; collectors are just hungry for pop culture products.”

Parks and Rec has hit that pop culture note several times, using story lines from current events and bringing in popular special guests – giving Press Pass a good list of celebrities to chase.

From the show’s own list of actors, Press Pass is looking to get autographs from Amy Poehler, Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones (the pictures provided are just mock ups).

Each box of Parks and Recreation will contain two autographs and one relic card along with 24 packs. The first series, which focuses is on the first four seasons, is scheduled to release in mid-to-late May, according to Farrell. The base set will consist of 90 cards.

While Press Pass hasn’t announced which celebrity guests will appear, there are several the company hopes it can pen to a deal. Celebrity guests on Parks and Recreation have included Will Forte, Joe Biden, Fred Armisen, Parker Posey, Paul Rudd, Lucy Lawless, Megan Mullaly and Andy Samberg.

    This gives me an idea… How about an SNL set and have all the former cast have autos!!! That would be sweet!

    YEAH SNL all cast members in famous skits like Mr Robinson’s neighborhood or Gumby ( eddie murphy)
    John Belushi (samuri ) Bassomatic -Dan Akroid or The Coneheads so many through the years now this I would buy more than 1.Chevy CHASE weekend update President Ford. Somebody call Press pass …..maybe I should.
    Will Ferrel George Bush I could go on and on and on.
    I really can’t believe someone hasn’t tried to do this.

    StarPics made an SNL set in 1992 — right in the 1990s SNL prime. It’s loaded with the big names of the time and includes very rare autos. You can find wax boxes as cheap as $7 a pop online.

    I’m saying a brand new set, with cut autos of the people who have passed on.. CHRIS FARLEY!!! And two or three autos per box. I’m sayin!

    Ok… But what about a new set with more autos instead of having to bust 5 cases of it to find one auto. Kinda like 1990 pro set and the Hologram. I’m thinking game of thrones style set.

    The SNL autographs suffer from the same problem all Star Pics autographs have, they are authenticated
    only by a sticker so people take regular cards and add the autograph after. Not sure if they pull the stickers
    from legit cards or just had new stickers made. *shrug*

    There are a number of shows that would work great because of all the guest stars over the years.
    SNL, Johnny Carson, Arsenio hall, heck any of the late night stop and chats from over the years or day time
    like Larry King or Oprah have lots of opportunities.

    Getting approvals to use celebrity likenesses is one thing and then paying them to sign is another.

    For current shows, it’s easier because they are ON the show for the imaging issue. Signing is another story.

    For old shows, it’d be a long, tough task that’s likely not worth all the work and cost vs. the potential financial return. Just because somebody shows up on Oprah doesn’t mean they can just make a card of that person.
