When it comes to Star Wars trading cards, the original 1977 set and its blue starfield borders are the most iconic. Not that far behind is the Star Wars Galaxy line, an important part in the franchise’s history as far as bringing it back in the early ’90s. 2018 Topps Star Wars Galaxy brings the line back after a few years’ break. And with it comes a focus on what made the line so popular — art.
That said, for long-time fans of the Galaxy line, this may not feel exactly like it used to, even with the most recent reboot a few years ago. The big difference? More hits than ever before. Each 2018 Topps Star Wars Galaxy hobby box has two premium inserts including one autograph.
2018 Topps Star Wars Galaxy Base Set
The main set consists of 100 cards. A little over half of these highlight original art under the New Visions banner. The other half is new to trading cards but may have been seen elsewhere. These are dubbed Archives.
Since the last Star Wars Galaxy set came out in 2012, a lot has changed with the franchise. There’s new films, more television shows and lots more to draw from. This comes through on the checklist throughout the product, including the base set.
Parallels combine to land one per hobby pack. Levels include Blue, Green (1:4 packs), Purple (/99), Orange (/25), Printing Plates (1/1) and Red (1/1).
Autographs
Autographs aren’t a new thing for Star Wars Galaxy. In the past, they’ve just been used in smaller numbers. The original sets had some artist autographs. The first revival had a limited number of actor autographs and some sketch autographs.
For 2018 Topps Star Wars Galaxy, there’s an autograph in every hobby box. Signers draw from the full scope of the franchise. Key names (which uses labels for the signatures) include Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Hayden Christensen, John Boyega, Felicity Jones and Billy Dee Williams.
Single-signed autographs have Blue (/50), Green (/25), Purple (/10), Orange (/5), Printing Plate (1/1) and Red (1/1) parallels.
Dual, Triple, and Six-Person (/2) Autographs are also randomly inserted.
Other Inserts
In addition to the promised autograph, hobby boxes come with a second premium insert. These include sketch cards with original art. In addition to standard sketch cards, there are Shaped and Panoramic versions.
Commemorative Patch cards draw from Star Wars Galaxy cards from the past. These have Blue (/199), Green (/150), Purple (/99), Orange (/25) and Red (1/1) parallels.
2018 Topps Star Wars Galaxy has six additional insert sets. These combine to land one per hobby pack.
These start with a six-card Puzzle, a Galaxy staple from the line’s beginning. Joe Corroney is providing the art, which will connect with past puzzles.
Star Wars: Rebels is the inspiration for a pair of inserts. Wanted Posters are done for each of the show’s six heroes with art by Eli Maffei. These all have Printing Plate (1/1) versions as well.
Journey of Ahsoka comes from Topps’ Star Wars Card Trader digital app. The art on these are done by Rebels creator Dave Filoni. Parallels here come in Purple (/99), Orange (/25), Printing Plates (1/1) and Red (1/1).
Russell Walks provides the art for a pair of Propaganda insert sets, one for Rogue One and one for The Last Jedi.
Rounding out the 2018 Topps Star Wars Galaxy checklist is a series of The Last Jedi Character Cards by Mick and Matt Glebe. Adding to the base versions are Purple (/99), Orange (/25), Printing Plates (1/1) and Red (1/1) parallels.

@david — At this point not sure. Only hobby info was sent out. Judging by configuration, retail would not surprise me, though.
do we really need fake patches or medallions in every topps product ?

What kind of plastic protector can you use with the patch cards?
