Apparently, eBay isn’t a fan of basketball cards with the Menendez brothers. After a wild weekend where 1990-91 Hoops Mark Jackson cards went from dime box denizens to hot sellers of $20 and more, the online auction house is pulling listings of the card. The card hit the mainstream when news of Lyle and Erik Menedez sitting courtside in the background went viral.

While there’s still no shortage of the cards available on the site, some are starting to have their listings pulled.

An email sent to impacted sellers includes the following:

“You listed an item affiliated with a known murderer. eBay does not allow items that were owned by or affiliated with many murderers and serial killers. While we appreciate that you have chosen to utilize our site, we must ask that you please not relist in this case.

“Affiliated with means items that are directly associated with the person. This can include (but is not limited to) objects like photographs, paintings, action figures, flags, sculptures, pins, books authored by the person, items they have owned, etc.”

But not everyone has gotten this email yet.

One of them is Rob Veres of Burbank Sportcards. His company has sold more than 200 copies of the card recently. The listing, which is still available, has been viewed more than 15,000 times.

Veres isn’t overly concerned, though.

“Not quite sure why they are singling this card out when the site is littered with items from every other murderer and serial killer I can think of,” he observed.

And it’s easy to find examples of this just within the sports world. O.J. Simpson has more than 1,500 different football card listings. In 1997, he was found responsible for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in civil court. Aaron Hernandez has hundreds of cards available as well. He was convicted of first degree murder in 2015.

If eBay does continue to crack down on the 1990-91 Hoops Mark Jackson card because of the Menendez brothers cameo, there are still other places the card can be found. This includes the Beckett Marketplace. There are no plans to remove the cards at this time.

EBay needs to focus and making money instead of meddling in people’s business. I had cbd, ecigs and vapor cartridges listed for 4 hours but they were removed for violating policy. Yes the same products are all over ebay. Cbd is not an illegal product. By the way. I have a stack of those mark Jackson cards too.

    Shameless plug of the week:
“If eBay does continue to crack down on the 1990-91 Hoops Mark Jackson card because of the Menendez brothers cameo, there are still other places the card can be found. This includes the Beckett Marketplace. There are no plans to remove the cards at this time.”

@Bart – Totally see where you’re coming from. Here’s why it was included, shameless or not. This card already reached a certain level of hysteria. Most card collectors will probably agree that the prices they’ve been fetching are much higher than they probably should be. If they’re all of a sudden disappearing from the place most people go to get their cards, there’s a potential there of things getting even more out of hand based on speculation. So by pointing out there are other places that they can still be found, it could help slow that down. And if there’s a place in house that offers it, why wouldn’t we? The database also notes this simply as a Mark Jackson card. There’s no intention to exploit it by adding to the title.

This card has been out forever and there’s probably enough of them to completely cover the Empire State Building 100 times over. Like P.T. Barnum once said “there’s a sucker born every minute”. I have a few of them but they are part of sets I personally collated and would rather not bust them apart. Then again if the prices keep going up then I’ll probably jump on the crazy train bandwagon and sell them off.

So what is the card really selling for I see prices and they are all over place I don’t know what is real
