Disney’s D23 Expo 2022 Included Exclusive Trading Cards
Much of the excitement from Disney’s D23 Expo 2022 in Anaheim stemmed from the many movie, Marvel and Star Wars announcements made over the weekend. But there was a lot of other things going on at the show, including a few different opportunities to snag exclusive trading cards.
Disney Lorcana
Lorcana is an upcoming trading card game slated to come out in 2023 from Ravensburger. Think Magic: The Gathering only with Mickey Mouse rather than Planeswalkers and The Black Cauldron instead of the Black Lotus.
Lorcana made its debut at D23 in the form of a couple of previews. First is a six-card D23 Collectors Set:
- Elsa
- Captain Hook
- Stitch
- Robin Hood
- Maleficent
- Cruella De Vil
The set cost $49.99 at D23. On eBay, bids have topped $2,000 for some of the early sets.
In addition to the set, there was a Mickey Mouse Brave Little Tailor card given out along with a matching pin. It’s currently selling for more than $200.
Disney Hits
As far as traditional trading cards go, D23 had a Disney Hits set. Cards highlight various songs from movies with the idea that they go together to make a playlist.
Cards have an image from the movie, noting the tune. Some foil accents are also part of the set’s design. Backs note the film, the scene the song’s from, its release date and offers credits for the creators.
A total of 30 cards make up the checklist for the set, which was produced by Rittenhouse.
According to the wrapper, 5,000 packs were made. Each has three cards.
Disney+
Disney+’s library of shows and movies has grown a lot since its launch in November, 2019. The streamer gave out packs of trading cards highlighting many of them. The promo set includes shows and movies from not just the Disney brand but Star Wars and Marvel as well.
Fronts use artwork while backs are all the same with the Disney+ logo.
Each pack of these also has three cards.
