Winston is likely the number 1 draft pick overall.
The question is, if drafted, can he keep his life off the field from messing it up?

Marcus Mariota is the more recent winner of the Heisman and he has not had the same
type of off field issues. More importantly, he has a better completion rating as well as
a much lower number of interceptions.

So, I think Marcus is a better choice for long term success.

    Jameis Winston.
Since we are just answering who will be best next year, I will go with Winston. His game is more equipped for the NFL right now. Mariota could be better in the long run but it will take a lot of work.

Team Mariota……..and in my opinion it is not that close. Mariota is a humble mature kid. The kind of guy you would want your daughter to marry. He is A+ on and off the field. Superb athlete and hell of an arm to boot. Winston off the field is the exact opposite. Of the two , whom would you trust with the keys to your Ferrari ? I rest my case.

Winston, unfortunately will be the better QB. Going to Tampa and having a WR duo like Evans and Jackson will do wonders for him. I hope Marcus has a good career, he’s a class act, but Winston isn’t a dual-threat QB

I’m from Hawaii so, of course, you would think it’s team Mariota…BUT in all fairness, I think Winston will have a better initial season…so for this question, I’ll go with Team Winston.

…but career wise, I think Mariota will grow and learn how to play a better Pro game, just the way he grew into the College game. If he can get protection from his line, he’ll be a consistent playoff QB.

If Winston can keep off field issues under control, it’s Winston.

If Mariota can adjust to a pro offense, it’s Mariota.

I think the odds of Mariota adjusting are better than Winston not messing up, so count me as

    Team Mariota

I think Winston will be all grown up with him being “shown the money”

    Team Winston grows up

    Team Mariota blows up

    Jamesis Winston.

I feel will have the better rookie season. He has the right tools on the field. And has shown that his has matured of the field as well. Besides, the last time the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl, their starting Quarterback was a former Seminole.

Team Winston, because he will start right away and with the Bucs arsenal at tight end and wide receivers it will be almost hard for him to miserably fail. Mariota on the other hand who knows what team he will be on and more importantly when he will even play. So, if you want to collect Mariota cards and let them marinate for a few years then maybe he is the choice, but even if and when he plays who knows if he will turn into Jake Locker.

    Jameis Winston.

I’m not a fan of the guy at all — I actually prefer Mariota — but he’s more polished as an NFL QB and will still almost certainly get drafted ahead of Mariota as a result. If not for the character issues, this wouldn’t even be a debate.

    Team Winston…

I would have to go with Jameis Winston in Year 1. Mariota will be good in the long run, but there will be a painful transition from college to the pros.

    Team Mariota

It really comes down to who drafts who. Despite Winston seeing more of the NFL style of play I believe his ceiling will be reached faster than Mariota, who’s ceiling I feel is higher.

Mariota’s path to success will be stunted out of the gate unless he goes to a team that wants to build to his strengths (mobility / spread offense – well designed plays) – and hopefully a coach who has control over the the personnel. (The Eagles come to mind .. fingers crossed – that would make an exciting team to watch)

I believe Mariota was asked to perform on a higher athletic level than Winston in college and being a better natural athlete than Winston will give teams more options of attack on Offense in the NFL. (Only if the team wants to build/design according to his strengths – this requires smart and dedicated coaches – no wanna be’s, no stand in’s)

Yes Winston has pocket confidence which is considered a NFL ready trait, and he’s accurate enough to be in the NFL, but he also loves to talk, and the camera, and “me” and I’m trying to determine which candy bar company or fast food chain he’ll sign with first ;). He’s more plug and play for more teams in the NFL, and very possibly could have more game time, more TD’s, and more interceptions, however if a team decides to ride it all on Mariota, with well designed plays, and a quick huddle spread style offense Mariota will outpace Winston this year, and years to come.

Much like Manning, Brees, Wilson, and Luck.. it’s hard not to root for true class acts.
    Team Mariota FTW

Winston is the prototype pocket passer, while Mariota is more of a run and gun passer. History shows the pocket guy will outdo the rocket guy in the long run.

Long Term — Probably someone else. Just like the five guys drafted ahead of Brady in 2000.

It will definitely depend on who drafts Mariota — If it’s the Eagles then he’ll be the bigger hobby star. Go Chip Kelly (and the eagles).

  15. Ian 13 April, 2015 at 13:18

Team Winston – He has all the tools, he just needs to be aware of his ability and opportunity.

  16. Craig 13 April, 2015 at 20:53

I think Winston has that McNabb, Randall Cunningham quality. I think he will be a pleasant surprise. Not sold on Mariota … dime a dozen.

  17. Justin Wolf 14 April, 2015 at 06:28

    Team Mariota

I think Winston is a more talented prospect but I feel that Winston is not serious about football and is way to immature. I get the vibe that Winston doesn’t care as much as he should if he is going to lead a NFL team.

  18. DJsensei 14 April, 2015 at 12:56

    Team Mariota,

Because of all the hype he is getting when it’s crunch time and the draft is nearing. All of a sudden every team wants him and the Chargers might even trade their franchise QB a Rivers for him? Plus his overall work ethic and demeanor is ten times better than Winston. While Winston is eating and getting chubby Mariota is humbly working with QB coach Kevin Oconnell and getting a head start. BIGGEST REASON ALSO IS GECAUSE HIS WAX IS ALREADY TOP OF HIS CLASS, SO UNLESS BECKETT AND THE REST OF THE HOBBY IS JUST PRICING MARIOTA WAX AT THE TOP OF THE CLASS FOR THE HECK OF IT, I DONT SEE HIS CARDS GOING DOWN IN PRICE ISTEAD THE OPPOSITE AS SOON AS HE LANDS WITH A TEAM.

  19. George Smith 14 April, 2015 at 19:57

Team Jameis Winston – Jameis already has the tools for on the field success and feel that will trickle over into his off the field life. I think he has proven he has matured as a person and will be a starter the minute he steps on the field.
