There are variations and then there are the 2020 Topps Holiday Baseball variations. Instead of the usual Gatorade baths, slick suits and other ballpark hijinks, it’s festive Photoshop fun. Candy canes, snowballs and Santa hats are among the additions.

Variations are available in three tiers of rarity. There’s no connection between them other than the pack odds. SP Variations are the most common, landing 1:7 2020 Topps Walmart Holiday Baseball packs. Rare Variations are 1:20 packs, or every other blaster box. Super Rare Variations are the toughest to pull, falling 1:161 packs.

The lineup is a big one. The product has 100 total variations between all three levels. SP cards account for half of that. Rare and Super Rare Variations have 25 cards each.

This is the second consecutive year that the Walmart Holiday set has gone over-the-top with variations. The 2019 set also has a similar set-up and variation themes.

How to Spot a Short Print from a Super Rare Variation

Although the 2020 Topps Holiday Baseball variations come in three different levels of rarity, there’s no obvious tell as far as differentiating them. That means the codes in the fine print have an added level of importance.

To do this, flip the card over and go to the very end of the legal text on the bottom. There you’ll see a long code. The last few digits different card types. So while on the small side, it is an easy way to know right away if you’ve got a variation or a base card. Here, the code also differentiates an SP from both Rare and Super Rare Variations.

These are the code endings you need to tell 2020 Topps Holiday Baseball variations:

  • Base Cards – 465
  • Short Print Variations – 471
  • Rare Variations – 472
  • Super Rare Variations – 473

I have a Kris Bryant Super Rare variation -73 in a pack today. I see it not listed on this page yet. How do I go and try to add it or have someone add it for me?

  2. Ronald Harth 8 January, 2021 at 13:43

It would be nice if I could actually find a box at Walmart & not pay 3X the price on Ebay.

I have an Aaron Nola #HW73 that has icy blue letters for his name, and I can’t find anything about that. Any insights?

    • Ryan Cracknell 14 January, 2021 at 21:12

@Will – Does it have sparkles in other parts of the card? If so, it’s likely a metallic parallel. If you want to email me an image (rcracknell@beckett.com), I can check it out.

I happened to find a box at Walmart and it was odd that it was the only one on the shelf. I managed to hit the Super Rare Luis Robert with the lights necklace. Anybody know how many of these were actually produced?? Only seen 2 on Ebay

    • Ryan Cracknell 19 January, 2021 at 10:59

@Jeff – If it’s not serial numbered, print runs haven’t been announced. You might be able to get a ballpark number by running the odds in several areas and comparing to the variations.

Jeff H, according to the odds it looks like there are only about 420 Made of the Necklace Variation for the 25 Super Rare Luis Robert Cards. 3,374 of the Rare Luis Robert.

Pulled an Acuna JR Auto #/10. someone is selling this card #/65 on ebay. Are the cards different?

  7. David Hersh 11 February, 2021 at 13:47

Certain cards feel differently, almost as if the sparkles are felt-like. Are those the metallic version of the commons?
