2020 Bowman Chrome Autographs – Prospect Breakdown and Guide

The 2020 Bowman Chrome autographs represent some of the key cards of the entire season. Historically (at least for the last 15 years since Rookie Cards became predominantly limited to players following their MLB debut), a player’s first Bowman Chrome autograph goes on to become the most coveted readily available card of their career.

Cards boast several key elements including on-card signatures, lots of Refractor parallels and, perhaps most importantly, the Bowman Chrome name.

The 2020 Bowman Chrome autographs are spread across three releases. It began with 2020 Bowman Baseball, which has a mix of Bowman and Bowman Chrome. The second batch arrives in 2020 Bowman Chrome Baseball with new players. Finally, there’s 2020 Bowman Draft, which highlights much of the year’s draft class. Taken all together, the list has a lot of depth. Some players will pan out while others won’t catch the proverbial hobby fire. But that’s what the world of baseball card prospecting is all about.

Top Prospects Among the 2020 Bowman Chrome Autographs

It’ll be a few years before we have a definitive answer as to what the best 2020 Bowman Chrome autographs are. However, there are a couple of standouts early on in 2020 Bowman Baseball.

Bobby Witt Jr. was the second pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, going to the Kansas City Royals. It appears that he filled the customary spot where a top draft pick is left out of Bowman Draft to ensure there’s an anchor in the following year’s Bowman release.

And while Witt’s held in high regard looking to the future, he’s been topped by Jasson Dominguez. Just 17 at the time his first Bowman Chrome autograph’s release, he’s got lots of tools and wears a Yankees uniform. It’s a combination that had box prices soaring long before release and early sales in the thousands.

Among those drawing early attention in 2020 Bowman Chrome are Luisangel Acuña and Bayron Lora. Born in 2002, both rank among the youngest players. They also happen to both be with the Texas Rangers franchise.

Not all of the Prospect Autographs in 2020 Bowman are first Bowman Chrome autos. Three top picks from the 2019 draft make a second appearance: Adley Rutschman (1st overall), Andrew Vaughn (3rd overall) and J.J. Bleday (4th overall). In 2020 Bowman Chrome, Riley Greene gets his second autograph after having his signature in 2019 Bowman Draft.

While not the first to get multiple Prospect Autographs, those that do get them have usually been traded while still in the minors. The high draft pick trend is one that has been used more frequently in recent years but in small numbers.

Similar to comparing a Rookie Card to a second-year release, these are generally considered to be the less valuable of the two.

Chasing the 2020 Bowman Chrome Autographs Rainbow

Besides the regular version, 2020 Bowman Chrome autographs have lots of parallels. Outside of Printing Plates, they’re all Refractors. While all Chrome cards have a certain level of shine, Refractors take things a step further. When you put these under bright light, the background gives off a rainbow reflection.

Some like Refractors because they offer a bigger chase as well as a wider net of cards with smaller print runs.

2020 Bowman Chrome Autographs: Hobby Versus Retail

2020 Bowman Baseball is a product that’s available in both hobby and retail configurations. In fact, both have multiple box types.

Hobby has all types of Bowman Chrome Prospect Autographs except for Green and Green Shimmer Refractors. Hobby jumbo has everything but Orange and Green Refractors as well as their respective shimmer versions.

At the retail level (packs and blaster boxes found at places like Walmart and Target), there aren’t a lot of 2020 Bowman Chrome Autographs as far as variety goes. Green Refractors and Green Shimmer Refractors, which have 99 copies each, are retail exclusives. Yellow Refractors that are numbered to 75 are the only parallels found in both hobby and retail.

Base 2020 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autographs are only in hobby and hobby jumbo packs.

The 2020 Bowman Chrome release is hobby-only.
