2019-20 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Variations Play Pond Hockey, Go to the All-Star Game

2019-20 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Hockey variations weren’t announced ahead of time. You won’t see any mention of them on packs, either. But the surprise inserts exist in a couple of different forms.

All-Star Variations takes a typical approach, swapping out the regular photos for shots of featured players in the special jerseys from the game. These can be spotted in a couple of ways, even if you don’t have a base version to compare it to. The All-Star jerseys are black and white, even for the logos. In instances where this is tough to tell, most of the variation photos also show an All-Star Game patch on the player’s shoulder.

Pond Hockey cards are more like a parallel but only for some of the players in the set. The photos are the same but the backgrounds take the sport back to its roots. Instead of a blank backdrop, players are cast against a winter scene on a secluded pond.

In both instances, the surprise 2019-20 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Easter Eggs come on Refractor-like Rainbow card stock. This means they’ll quickly stand out against regular base cards that still have a metallic look but it’s more flat.

As usual for Upper Deck’s surprise inserts, odds and print run numbers are not known.
