Noted media personality and collector Keith Olbermann received the “Friend of the Card Stores” award last week during a Topps dealer seminar in Las Vegas.
His speech offered some words of encouragement to hobby shop owners — and the perspective of a life-long collector — remarks in stark contrast to the CBS News feature earlier this week that the hobby, baseball cards in particular, were part of a dying industry.
While the CBS story has created quite a bit of chatter among collectors (click here to view the segment and read comments), here’s hoping that Olbermann’s comments can generate just as much discussion.

Good Speech.
He is dead on about the thrill of getting the ebay package in the mail.
Would be impossible to collect short prints without people opening cases and selling the cards on ebay and elsewhere.
Think how cool a box break or case break could be at a card shop.
Everybody could meet at the shop, watch the break and leave with their cards , trade with other people or leave them for the owner to sell commons cheap to kids.
Cheers to you Mr. Olbermann.
I think Beckett needs to hire him as a spokesperson to try and get more people into cards (not that many kids watch him though). Congratulations Mr. Olbermann.
Didnt he just get fired from some second rate cable tv channel?
