ESPN’s Darren Rovell and Upper Deck have a chat on Twitter

Well if they claim growth after this upcoming years draft class you know they are being liberal with reality. The classes of 2011 and 2012 aren’t really the norm as far as skill players.

The real question to ask would be how was their revenue/ profit margin compared to Topps and Panini who both have licenses?

One thing that wasn’t mentioned is this: Upper Deck doesn’t profit from those 3rd party sales, AFTER their product has been busted. I’m glad UD sees their value on the SECONDARY market, but what about the sustainability of their profit points, product schemes, and other market analysis as it relates to UD’s FIRST PARTY sales?

I would have loved to see Rovell get more into that, but it appears both sides just engaged in a minor Twitter sword fight. Neither side proved anything.

I, for one, LOVE the fact that at least someone has the ability to produce college cards. What I hate is the fact that they come up with a product like Fleer Retro to be used mainly as a sticker dump for non-high end players! Come on… as a Boise State collector, look at the Autographics set. Kellen Moore got 4… FOUR different Autographics cards, 1997, 1998, 1999, AND 2000. Doug Martin? Try just one, which would be the exact amount as Tyler Shoemaker, who wasn’t on a pro roster from opening day on. Sticker dump.
