That was a heck of a weekend in football. A couple of walk-off field goals, high scores, and some great defensive stands could all be remembered.
Justin Tucker set an NFL record with his 66-yard game winning field goal. He is arguably one of the most popular kickers to collect now, and that’s not changing any time soon.
While that was a cool moment, it didn’t quite make the cut for my MVPs. Here’s a look at the three best players of the weekend and how they stack up in the collectible world.
Matthew Stafford
I have always felt bad for Matthew Stafford. He has all that talent and had to play for the struggling Detroit Lions. Now that he plays for the Rams, you can see that talent on full display. Los Angeles completely dominated the reigning Super Bowl champion Buccaneers this past weekend. Stafford went 27-for-38 with 343 yards and four touchdowns.
Ever since being traded to the Rams collectors have been paying more and more money for his cards. In February of this year, this National Treasures card doubled in value to $800. Just seven months later, high is $2000.
Josh Allen
For the second week in a row, the Buffalo Bills blew out their opponents. Josh Allen completed 32 passes for 358 yards and four touchdowns. He was one of the preseason favorites for the MVP Award and he is showing why. Over the last two seasons, Josh Allen has been one of the most collected players in the league. Only Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes have higher values right now. In August, this Contenders card’s value jumped from $800 to $2000. Recent sales show it holding strong.
Davante Adams
Davante Adams was the best wide receiver over the weekend, and it wasn’t just because of his stats. His 12 catches for 132 yards and a score were impressive, but his clutch performance was what stood out the most. He was almost knocked out of the game with a helmet-to-helmet hit, but he only missed one play. Adams came back in and made two amazing catches to set up the game-winning field goal. It’s things like this that gets collectors buzzing. Adams’ cards have been consistently strong over the last few years. High book for his 2014 Topps Chrome Rookie Autograph card recently jumped from $40 up to $100.
