Topps notes Jackie Robinson Day with new sets
By Chris Olds | Beckett Baseball Editor
Sixty-eight years ago, Jackie Robinson changed Major League Baseball forever and today every person in uniform on every roster will wear his No. 42.
Topps is placing its focus on the Hall of Famer and social pioneer as well by releasing two sets of cards and a series of oversized prints available now only on Topps.com.
The Jackie Robinson Story collection is a reproduction of the 10-card set found in packs of 2015 Topps at Target stores — only this time they are 5- by 7-inch jumbo cards and 10- by -14-inch prints.
A standard set of the cards with silver lettering is limited to only 99 serial-numbered cards with a price of $29.99. A deluxe set, one with gold lettering, is limited to only 42 serial-numbered copies and includes five bonus cards — a set of Cardboard Icons prints showing Robinson’s Topps cards from 1952 to 1956). It carries a $99.99 price tag.
Fans of the oversized prints, which Topps has been producing on a regular basis the last two years, have two options to choose from this time, with a 1/1 gold print of all 10 cards available at $99.99 per card or a standard version limited to only 99 copies for $29.99 per print.
