Mike Singletary Kicks Off 2020 Industry Summit
The 2020 Industry Summit kicked off on Monday. Originally planned for Las Vegas, the pandemic meant a change of plans switching to a virtual format. One thing that didn’t change was the first keynote address from Mike Singletary, who fired up attendees from more than 40 states and several countries from around the world.
The Hall of Famer addressed the crowd with a timely and motivating talk on achieving excellence no matter the circumstances.
“If it is to be, it’s up to me,” Singletary said.
Drawing from his own experiences growing up, the two-time NFL Defensive player of the year highlighted three personal attributes that drove him: attitude, accountability and accumulation — doing all the little things that make a difference.
Singletary talked about how some of the immense challenges he faced at a young age, such as losing his brother, led him to make some very conscious decisions to find ways to not only get himself back up but help those around him as well.
He highlighted one particular moment when his mother asked him to be the man of the house. Just 12 at the time, he admitted to being scared. But it was her belief in him that led him to set some powerful goals that day that motivated him through school, his football career and beyond.
“Greatness is in you. You just have to find it,” he said.
The 2020 Industry Summit starts today with a variety of sessions and experiences for attendees and continues through to Wednesday, October 21.
