Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews Will Be Forever Linked in Hockey, Hobby

They are sometimes linemates but always teammates and now the two young men had a chance to hoist Lord Stanley in Philadelphia.

Then they basked in a parade in Chicago and if you thought you’ve seen a lot of combination cards of Patrick Kane and captain Jonathan Toews then think again – – expect a plethora of them in the coming sets by Upper Deck and hockey newcomer Panini.

Recently UD Artifacts had a nice combo card of this dynamic duo on a patch card numbered to just 15. Before the Cup, that card probably would have sold for $100 to $150 but now a card like this has an asking price of $200.

Is it worth it?

I think so especially if you are a fan of either the players or the teams.

There have been some great duos in the history of the sport like Mark Messier/Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin and Mario Lemieux/Jaromir Jagr, just to name a few and if you had purchased anything with those players on the card or photo or stick you would have been set.

Both of these guys haven’t even reached their peak. Kane is 21 and Toews is 22. The Hawks are deep, so this team should be a contender for years to come while these two players will continue to put up impressive numbers. Toews won the Conn Smythe, which solidifies him in the history books, and now he can continue to add to add some more hardware to his trophy case.

In 2008, Kane snagged the Calder Trophy and hockey players who have won rookie of the year honors seem to fare better than players in other sports who win the same type of award.

So let’s review, I’m telling you to buy anything with these two players on the card, photo, or stick and the time to get it is now.

Sure, it would have been better to have something before the Cup but now they will both be pictured with the Stanley Cup on cardboard and that will only add to the card’s allure.

This is their first Cup together, and they just might get another one sometime in the future.

Kane, Toews and my son were the reasons I returned to card collecting in 2007. In two different ways, they have grown tremendously as hockey players and into their roles as rock stars in Chicago. There’s a lot of local pride for how each is getting national attention, now let’s see if the hobby catches on. This, finally, should vault both young stars past Carey Price in value among 2007/08 rookie cards.
    Go Hawks!
