This might be a new record for the most recent set to be featured on Cheap Wax Wednesday. 2022 Topps Archives Snapshots Baseball went live on the Topps website on Friday, February 17. They were on sale for just a matter of hours (maybe just two hours) before they sold out. I received the boxes this past Saturday. They were shipped well protected, with each box in an individual sealed bubble bag.

What to expect?

2022 Topps Archives Snapshots Baseball boxes contain just a single pack of 12 cards. Of those, you should expect to find one on-card autograph and at least one parallel. Most of the parallels are hand numbered, with the exception of the most common Black & White parallels.

That is kind of a big deal. A guaranteed on-card autograph for the price of a blaster box? That is certainly worth a shot to me. There are some big names included in the 64-card autograph checklist. Mike Trout, Julio Rodriguez, Bobby Witt, Jr., Wander Franco, Derek Jeter all have autographs in this one. Keep in mind, though, that not all of the names on the checklist are superstars.

I ripped two of these to share since I am still within the $50 cheap wax budget.

Box 1:

The first pack kicks off with Whit Merrifield. I kind of wish the packs weren’t clear, but that’s nit picking.

Vets:

Whit Merrifield, Mookie Betts, Chipper Jones, Corbin Burnes, Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., Ronald Acuna, Jr. & Bucky Dent

This Red Sox fan just had to pull Bucky Dent, huh?

Rookies:

Kevin Smith, Wander Franco & Reid Detmers

Detmers, of course, threw a no-hitter May 10, 2022.

Parallel & Auto:

Torii Hunter Black & White and Juan Gonzalez Autograph Negative Inverse (089/100) (1:7 boxes)

I am still undecided about whether these Negative Inverse parallels are cool or creepy.

Box 2:

Brandon Marsh RC on top.

Vets:

The all-Bay Area trio; Brandon Crawford, Rickey Henderson & Mike Yastrzemski

I don’t believe there are any bad Rickey cards in existence. I’m always up for adding more.

Rookies:

Lars Nootbaar, Romy Gonzalez, Kevin Smith (again), Jarren Duran, Brandon Marsh & Vidal Brujan

Bummer on the duplicate Smith, but a couple decent RC names in here.

Parallels & Auto:

Jonathan India Black & White, Shohei Ohtani Blue (12/50) (1:9 boxes) & TJ Friedl Autograph

The Ohtani definitely outshines the autograph in this one!

Lastly, the Juan-Gone card back. Notice the hand numbering, which is used on all the numbered cards in this set.

Did I find a superstar autograph? Unfortunately not. There was a chance, though. The Ohtani Blue parallel is the star of the show for me. This is one of the online-exclusive releases that I did try to grab every year. Clearly, you had to be quick to even have a shot to buy these, though, as they did sell out in just an hour or two.

Thanks for the article always love to read and see what is going on I love the breaks and if you are wondering if I got a box no I didn’t that was way to fast I am not on here every minute of the day so I miss out on a lot of things that are going around but I love some of the cards you did pull your auto may not been super stars but not bad either but I will agree with you the blue parallel is the hottest card a number out of 50 I believe you said good find I like that card I would hang on to that one but I am a collector so that is what I would do I don’t like to get rid of none of my cards specially my different auto I collect all different types of brands and year’s just what ever I can pick up on a good deal I try not spend over my limit I want lie I am a risk taker so I go with the very hard odds to find or a very low number cards specially at least 25 and down I have been lucky to find them I just pulled a Joey votto modern artists auto out of tops gallery cards 2022 it’s out of 25 I can’t seem to find a price but I know other players of the same number cards they are pretty high high I don’t know if everyone that has found one there not for sell or if that Joey votto is that hard to find can’t not find one on eBay no where I don’t really know where else to go to find price checks I’m sure there are other places to look at I just a little slow when it comes to finding price checks and really be true about the price I think a lot of people really jack the price up on there cards but that is my opinion ever body has one but I would love to find a price on this nice auto if the price was right I might put it in some one home I am pretty easy to deal with I been doing this for a long time but All jokes you can’t just look at price on eBay because they are so many different prices on one card and they could be a 100 dollars in difference on one card so it will throw you off how one person has it for ae100 doallars and the next person have the same card in the same shape at least it is what they say that these cards are in very high grade but you do the math on all that you can’t believe everything you see you really have to watch what you find really know the truth I don’t buy off none of these sites if I want to try a certain card I usually just try to find it My self I can’t put no faith in no body you could say I have bad experience with this stuff I bought a pack of cards they had it for sell on ebay for 5 doallars and I noticed ever one else had the same kinda packs for 50 doallars or more were talking about vintage cards back to the 1987 tops looking for a Mark McGuire or a nice Barry bonds maybe even a nice Hof but you done know we’re this is going I even had to pay for shipping so right at ten dollars I could not get none of money back could not even reach nobody to answer me back it was a scam I should have none better what sounds good may not always be good I am brain dead they were in the clear plastic that have the three different spots for cards you can see what the three front cards on it and the three on the back so you all ready know what six cards are and I am thinking that one of the top cards were a Mark McGuire card and post to been in great shape and the crazy part is it didn’t really matter what it looked like but don’t get me wrong I want it to be flawless but them kinda packs are hard to find good cards with good corners I remember buying them in 1987 I was 13 years old maybe just a little younger than that because I believe I have a bunch of 1986 cards but I was a big fan in the 1987 donruss cards they still are my favorite cards I love every thing about the picture on the front they just don’t make them like that no more it really hard to beat out on some of the cards but I even like the 1985 cards specially that Mark McGuire USA card do I have that card no I don’t I did have And I grade my own cards I have been sent the grading scale and everything they do to determine the grade I am not probably not perfect but I want miss it by a half I have checked my own grading because I would send off a few I would write what I thought and when they come in Man I was dead on it or be off a half and centering is a big thing you might get away with 45 by 50 that want hurt you but you have to do front and back some people don’t catch that the back is just important as the front and you take the vintage cards was hard to find good cantering and the 87 cards were hard to find I don’t believe I ever found a ten they would come with good corners and great surface and even finding good corners was really hard to find if you are as old as I am you have to know what I am saying and even as a kid I wanted nothing but the best in my little books that I had and to be in these books I had with sleeves they held four cards maybe ten different places to put cards in they might have had more pages but not many more and let me tell you I had the best of the best in them books I don’t know how many Ken Griffey Jr rookie cards were in it I didn’t have many second year cards they had to be a close mint 10 for real I was picky I had them in just a little sleeves they were singles but not the hard plastic but I want lie it’s hard to put some of these cards in plastic with out damaged a coner I lost some good cards trying to put them in I had a second year Michael Jordan I got on a trade and some cash for a shoe box full of 87 and 88 cards and I found the Jordan in that box in excellent condition I think the only thing was might been off about the card was probably 35 by 50 on the centering but everything else was flawless and know I didn’t hurt it putting in a sleeve I had these books up to I was about 25 years old maybe a little older and I was going through a divorce and I had them hide in the back of my truck hide well and the only person knew they was there and she knew everything about every card I had in them books and they was a nice price tag on ever card that was in it I had talk about them for years I was with her for ten years so yeah she knew what I had and she knew how much these cards meant to me I went through every doallar I made when I was just a kid ever time I made a little bit of money and I made a lot of money when I was young My dad made us work and I made a lot of money on side jobs so I want lie I would care two two three hundred dollars in my pocket at all times so I bought a lot of boxes of cards plus I had a cousin that was the same age I was but he grew up in the city and I grew up in the country and he would come in every so often to visit family and I remember him showing me the very first 1989 upper deck Ken Griffey Jr rookie card I was blown away and at the time I was still in the 87 year I was just so Head strong about that Year so by the time 89 came around and what was going on that year I want lie I didn’t know a thing about 89 and how was in it I heard a little talk about this little young boy and his way how he batted like nothing no body ever seen but it still didn’t click I am the only kid in my family none of my parents were in to sports I was done playing basketball in school and I was good at it so I come from a family didn’t set and watch no sports on are TV I remember my papaw going to his house when I was just a little kid they didn’t even believe in TV right I know I told you I am from the country of Kentucky in the mountains area so even trying to find cards to buy but they was a big flee market the next country over from where I lived I would get my dad to take me we’re I could find boxes of cards for sale like 36 packs to a box I believe that is how many in a box it’s been a long time but back to that Ken Griffey Jr rookie man my cousin showed me that card and you know as much as I know in 89 it was the only card to find that had any value in the hole set so I was off two the races to find that one card my cousin his dad took him to a card shop and buy it looking through a glass to find it know not me for one thing my dad did not buy my cards I grew up in a hole different way my dad didn’t have that kinda job like his brother had plus my dad never bought me evan a pack of cards I know that might sound a little rough but I was cool about it my dad worked hard to take care of his family and me and my brother that was just a year younger than me we worked every day doing something so I was cool with it my dad always told me I might not understand why you want to spend every dollar you make on a ball card but it is your money and you work hard for your money son if that is what makes you happy I with you but I can not buy ball cards for you I have to pay bills I didn’t look at things like that I figured all that out later on when I got married at 19 years old and I had me 3 kids so I figured out what he was talking about so they are a big gap in card collection from staring about 1993 and for a lot of years so I miss out on Derek Jeter rookie card I was not keeping up with it I had to work day light to dark for my dad had his own business so I worked for my dad for over twenty years maybe a little longer and I finally walked away from it and got a job with his brother that had his own business building homes and I worked for him just like I did my dad day light to dark that is a lot hours I come from a family that they were work hourse believe me that is what made me what I am but now I will say this and I will tie this all up all my kids are all gone I remarried to my soul mate we been together for over twenty years she had three little kids when I got with her so I am a Dad a step dad and I have loved every minute of it but it did kill me out on staying in the game and I mean buying cards so I miss out on a lot of cards that I would love to have but All my cards I have now mean a lot to me I have some nice cards I don’t think money can buy them and I will end it like this and I am All right about it now I guess it still hurts but remember my books I had they were only two of them but you would had to see what all was in there all most all rookie cards I don’t know how many Ken Griffey Jr rookie cards I had to a a Bowman Tiffany to his upper deck several of them to his lower class I call it his donruss but I like them My self his score not so much but you got to think when these cards first come out you could make a little money on selling his cards and let me say this they were a little hard to find it was not like pulling a Kirby Puckett or a Wade boggs just a example I like them guys to they might not Big homer guys but they can move the bases and when you play like that they was just as dangerous you can’t find know body like some of these old gesses I call them that for real name some names in the game now that can play with these guys back in the day you can’t there are just a few seem like back in the day it was a lot of players that could get on Base look at Pete Rose yeah I know he will never be in the Hof but he just got caught amagine how many done it and just didn’t get caught that is all I have to say about that but back to them books I try not to add up the value of every card that was in it but I probably could have retired early in life I always wanted to show my dad why I done what I done the things I did it for I would love to tell you I got that chance but I didn’t some how of nother my ex-wife on a visit to see my kids at the same time I thought we was trying to make it work out she got some one else to get in the back of my car and I didn’t have a clue that I was being played and I ended up figuring out how the guy was he was a crack head I mean bad on drugs so yeah every card I had went through and I was really hard on judging my cards I looked it like this if I am wanting to buy a card that is raw I want the best so I would not sell my cards if they was nothing but the best I was going to later on when I got the extra money probably when my kids were all gone from home and get most of some of these cards graded specially the second year Jordan I was really wondering how it would came out on the grade level I know more about grading cards now really just got into that in the last couple years and I go by the book I am hard on my grading if I do sell a card I want the person get what he pays for but yeah I lost both books they were a mickey mantle a babe Ruth and a bunch of more older cards now would they grade really high I don’t know they were in that shoe box I bought for twenty dollars I was 14 years old twenty dollars was a lot of money back then and they was some kinda trade but I believe he was trying to find friend ship more than anything he was a loner on the bus even in school he was a year younger than me I asked him several times are you for sure that you want to do this and I was young I never messed with basketball ball cards I was nothing but baseball but I got a little stack out of the box I may had ten or fifteen cards in hand to just see what I was looking at I found a Reggie Miller rookie card and one thing I did know was all the big names in all sports I just didn’t buy the packs but I flipped through here came out a sctooie pippen rookie card and then a Charles Barkley’s same year as Reggie Miller rookie card but I know enough to know what was rookie cards and what was not buy the back of the card were the statis were at but still a great find I heard a lot about this power house player then of course a few common cards at least that is what I call them so I just put them back in the box and this showe box was full of the same year they might been a few 1986 and 87 so I asked him how did he get these cards because he was younger than me he told me his dad or grandpa gave them to him I asked him several different times are you for sure wanting to do this don’t these cards mean anything to you he said no he didn’t have nothing for this person his mom was the one raised him when I meant the kid I told him I would have to ask your mom because I do a deal it has to be for sure you can’t come back a few days later and say you want your cards back he kept saying everything is good he wanted that twenty dollars bad and I had the twenty know problem for what I All ready Saw why I didn’t look at all them I don’t know but I didn’t but I was satisfied for real and he had took care of them I’m sure his fingers had never even touched them they really didn’t mean nothing to him I could tell just buy his actions so I did ask his mom she was all about it she told me if that is how he feels that is how he feels I live on a side road off the main road way out in the country and he lived on the end of it I bought those cards I could not get to the house fast enough My first buy off of a person buying cards off some one else I never done that I got home I ran through the house my mom was there she was like what is wrong with you I told her I just bought one hek of a deal I felt good about what I bought I got in my bedroom and shut the door I started looking through the cards here comes a Larry bird the same year as Reggie Miller rookie year than a majic Johnson the same year a wilt chamberlain card that Year a Dennis rodman rookie card and I don’t know how many other big names Patrick Ewing card Moses Malone card and before I did dig two all most two the end I would die if I pull a Jordan I didn’t bit more saying that here came a Jordan second year card and it was flawless but I try to picture it and I believe the centering was a little off I want lie about my cards I will tell you the truth about all my cards and I even pretty sure I had all the sticker cards for all the players even a Jordan and all them cards are gone I’m pretty sure I would still have ever one of them cards today because I don’t get rid of nothing but I can say I had a second year Michael Jordan Many people will never say that there is no telling what the old baseball cards were worth in that shoe box I made one hek of a deal I kinda felt bad about it a little bit but I want lie I never told him nothing about that trade ever we never talked about it again
