Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – September 25, 2021
Welcome to another edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we have fun and take a quick look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports.
2021 Bowman Chrome Baseball was the big release this week, brining with it a checklist that include 86 players getting their first Chrome Prospect Autographs. For a lot of collectors, the vast majority of these names will be unknown at this point. This is actually part of Bowman’s appeal. It provides a chance to follow a player’s pro career from its earliest stages. It’ll be a few years before we know who goes on to be stars, also part of what makes the line tick.
We’re only starting the third week of the NFL season and there are already some surprises. Among them is Derek Carr. Collectors showed a lot of patience for the Raiders quarterback early in his career. But the last couple of years have been a struggle. However, with Las Vegas out to a 2-0 start, Carr’s hobby standing is starting to rebound. Through Week 2, Carr led the NFL in passing yards with 817. It’s still early, but the quarterback is a comeback to watch in the weeks ahead.
On the ground, Derrick Henry is further cementing his place as an elite running back. He was dominant in Tennessee’s win over Seattle last weekend, running for 186 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterbacks may dominate the modern football card market, but Henry is certainly worthy of the attention he’s getting. At this point, it’s a pattern spanning several years and not just a good couple of weeks.
This week’s Hot/Cold is brought to you by Dynasty Breaks.
