Welcome to another Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take a fun and quick look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports. The World Series is upon us, which means over the next week or so some new hobby heroes will emerge. It could be a short-lived boost or maybe it’s a veteran star looking to cement their legacy. Either way, November baseball is fun baseball even if your team is out and you’re watching with little emotional attachment.

As it stands, Bryce Harper cards may have the most to gain overall with a Phillies victory. He’s already a big name in the hobby and has been for a long time. The outfielder isn’t quite at the career marks to make him a sure-fire Hall of Famer but the trajectory is there. A World Series ring will certainly add to that. Philadelphia has a lot of character players as well. This may not translate into big long-term spikes but clutch moments could entrench them with folk hero status.

It’s hard to believe that the Houston Astros, a team that have been perennial contenders for years, has the young talent to watch. ALCS MVP Jeremy Peña is one such name to watch, especially right now as his Rookie Cards are starting to arrive with late-season releases. This includes a sizeable presence on the 2022 Topps Update Series checklist. This marks his first flagship Topps cards. Besides the base RC, Peña appears among the variations as well as on multiple inserts.

Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez are among the other young Houston hitters to keep an eye on.
