Beckett Live Presents: Michael Lewis was a first in BLP history. Full disclosure, I cannot take any credit for the idea as it was all Michael’s. About two weeks ago Mr. Lewis approached me with the idea of doing a live painting on the show. After a few discussions of what that might look like we were able to come together and make it happen last night. Again, the first of it’s kind on BLP.

While the conversation was important, what was key was the actual painting happening on the third screen. Michael started just as we went on air and worked through the interview. We landed on a NCAA theme for the piece and took to Twitter to decide who the subjects would be. Magic Johnson and Larry Bird won in a landslide vote. Parting Shots

I have sang the praises of sports art more than enough for viewers to know how I feel about it. So, last night’s episode was a special one for me. I never though far enough outside the box to have a piece created while on air. Michael’s idea was fantastic and well received by the sports art community that was watching. I look forward to doing more with this type of show in the future.

As for the conversation, there were a lot of inside jokes and comments happening that the causal viewer may not get. Deep cut references as well. I try and make a show for everyone to enjoy, but every now and again you get a show like last night’s, and that is ok. Sports Art is on the verge of breaking into the main stream. I just want to be along for the ride.
