The 2020 Topps Heritage Baseball variations have the usual mix of types and styles. With six different SSP varieties, there’s plenty to keep track of.

That said, Topps has made it easy to know what you have even if you don’t recognize you’ve got something more than a base card or parallel right away.

Sorting out the 2020 Topps Heritage Baseball Variations

If you’re familiar with Topps Heritage variations, there aren’t any real surprises as far as themes go. 2020 Topps Heritage Baseball sticks with the same general themes as recent years.

Action Image Variations

Things start with Action Image Variations. Images on these replace the posed shots and portraits with ones that are more lively. Exclusive to hobby packs, they’re common as far as variations go. They land 1:27 packs.

As with the past few years, rookies are also part of the Action Image Variations. Base versions have multiple players, like the 1971 Topps set 2020 Heritage is based on. Rookie variations offer up an alternative for those wanting single-player cards.

Silver Team Name Variations

Silver Team Name cards are a more uniform spin on the color swap cards from the past. As the name suggests, these replace the usual color of the team name on the front with silver.

These are 1:265 hobby packs, or a little tougher than 1:11 boxes.

SSP Variations

The four remaining 2020 Topps Heritage Baseball variation types can be considered SSPs given their tough odds. Missing Signature (1:2,009 hobby packs) don’t have a facsimile signature on the front. Nickname Variations (1:2,414 hobby) highlight alternate names players go by. Error Variations (1:8,013 hobby) have intentional “mistakes.”

Finally, Throwback Uniform Variations are back. At 1:11,511 hobby packs, these are the hardest variations to pull in 2020 Topps Heritage Baseball. Players are shown in commemorative jerseys. Typically, these command a lot of attention and big prices.

Don’t Worry About Codes

If you’re not a fan of squinting at the fine print to confirm whether you have a variation, you don’t have to. The 2020 Topps Heritage variations are all labeled and let you know exactly what you have. You still need to flip the card over, but it’s a lot more clear, easy to spot and definitive.

If you have a variation, it’s right above the player photo on the back. Not only that, but the variation name is also there so you know the type. This can be particularly handy for SSP cards with very small changes.
