2020-21 Upper Deck Clear Cut Hockey Is Autographs and Acetate

Acetate is defining feature in 2020-21 Upper Deck Clear Cut Hockey. For the brand’s third year, the concept remains relatively straightforward. Each box flies solo with one card — an autograph done with acetate.

Past and present collide both on the checklist and with some of the set’s designs.

2020-21 Upper Deck Clear Cut Hockey Checklist Overview

Base Autographs carry a similar design as 2020-21 Upper Deck Hockey, only on the translucent stock and with the additional on-card signature.

That said, the checklist isn’t exactly the same. Here, it’s divided into three sections, each with similar parallels but with varying quantities:

  • Base – 1:11 packs
  • Exclusives – /35 or /15
  • High Gloss – /10
  • One-of-One – 1/1

  • Base – 1:90 packs
  • Exclusives – /15
  • High Gloss – /10
  • One-of-One – 1/1

  • Base – 1:4 packs
  • Exclusives – /65 or /35
  • High Gloss – /10
  • One-of-One – 1/1

Canvas Signatures (/25) also take inspiration from this year’s flagship release. Red Ink parallels are numbered to the player’s jersey number while Gold are one-of-ones.

Canvas Rookie Debuts Autographs have ten copies each. Here, Gold are also one-of-a-kind.

NHL Memoirs take a dual-photo approach on their card fronts with a black and white portrait joined by a color action shot. These are available with Stars (1:30), Rookies (1:18) and Legends (1:180). One-of-one Gold parallels can be found for all three levels.

Another debut is Hall of Fame Showcase (/35, Gold 1/1).

Perhaps the oldest designs in the product are found in Twisted Tinsel, a new addition on the 2020-21 Clear Cut checklist. Like NHL Memoirs, there’s tiers for Stars (1:45), Rookies (1:25) and Legends (1:400).

Delving Into the Past

From the beginning, Clear Cut has carved something of a niche by revisiting some of Upper Deck’s most iconic cards and sets and giving them an autographed acetate makeover.

Rookie Autos (1:16) recreates iconic Rookie Cards. Here, there are 2005-06 Upper Deck Young Guns, 2007-08 Artifacts Rookies, 2014-15 Black Diamond Rookie Gems, 2015-16 Upper Deck The Cup Rookie Autographs, 2016-17 SP Authentic Future Watch, and 2019-20 SP Game Used Authentic Rookies.

Exquisite Rookies (/49) use 2003-04 Exquisite Rookie Auto Patch as its inspiration. There’s also Exquisite cards numbered to 25. Gold (1/1) parallels are also featured here.
