2017 Bowman Chrome Draft variations come in a couple of forms. Select players have a Facsimile Signature version of their card that also uses an alternate photo. Those same alternate photos are also used on a limited number of Draft Pick Autograph variations.

Want to know how to find them and what they look like? Keep reading because we’ve made it easy.

How to Spot and Confirm and a 2017 Bowman Draft Variation SSP

Going through your stacks of 2017 Bowman Draft cards quickly? Want to make sure you don’t miss a variation? Follow these simples steps to make it fast and easy.

1. Check the Photo

This is the most obvious way to look for a 2017 Bowman Draft variation. It’s also the hardest, particularly for the autographs. That’s because it requires some memorization. But the facsimile signatures on the base variations are an easy giveaway.

2. What’s the Card Number?

If you have a chrome card that has the prefix “BD-” then you have a variation. Regular Chrome cards start with “BDC-“. For the Chrome Draft Pick Autographs, it’s “CDA-“. But for the 2017 Bowman Draft Baseball variations, Facsimile Signature and Autographs, it’s “BD-“, like the regular Bowman Draft cards.

3. The Serial Number (Autographs Only)

If you pull a Draft Pick Autograph that’s numbered to 99 and isn’t a Green Refractor, it’s a variation. Simple.

4. Codes on the Back

If you’re still unsure if you have a 2017 Bowman Chrome Draft variation, you can use the fine print on the back. At the end of the block is a code. Regular Chrome base cards end in 176. Draft Pick Autographs end in 212.

If the code on you card ends in 196, it’s a variation.

I have a photo variation with a facsimile Auto of Vlad Guerrero Jr. Wonder why it’s not listed on the checklist?

@John – As the article mentions, a full checklist wasn’t released by Topps. We’re working on gathering info and will be updating shortly.

Has any information been released on how short of a run the SSP variations actually are? A couple Royce Lewis Facsimile Signature Variation cards showed up on Ebay north of $200. Crazy.

Like John above, I also have 2 versions of card BD-150, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The non-auto version is on a paper Bowman Draft card showing him swinging the bat, and the facsimile autographed version is chrome stock with him holding a glove and getting ready to throw.
