After the success of last year’s set, it shouldn’t be a shock that 2016-17 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey cards arrived as an encore. The sophomore release features many of the same elements but with new designs and some new inserts. There’s also an augmented reality twist for collectors with smart phones.

2016-17 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Base Tim Horton

Looking for 2016-17 Upper Deck Tim Horton’s Hockey card values? They’re now listed in the Beckett price guide.

The in-restaurant promotion is scheduled to last just over a month, starting September 21 and ending November 2. That said, 2016-17 Tim Hortons Hockey cards are available while supplies last. Last year, many restaurants sold out faster than expected. It looks like cards are only being sold in Canadian restaurants.

The base set design builds off of 2015-16 Upper Deck Tim Hortons. It’s once again in foil with plenty of lines and shine. Like last year’s release, the base set has a total of 100 cards, focusing on the game’s bigger stars.

Inserts

Basic inserts come with a few different styles. Franchise Force uses lenticular 3-D. Clear Cut Phenoms use acetate to highlight last year’s top rookies and key young players. Platinum Profiles highlight superstars with a foil design. Pure Gold use a gold finish. Game Day Action highlights specific moments from the season, matching the photo with a write-up from the game. Checklists are done in the form of seven Local Leaders cards.

Like last year, there’s a tougher #1 Draft Pick redemption card, which should feature Auston Matthews once he makes his Maple Leafs debut. The card is insert 1:18,000 packs.

Autographs and Memorabilia Cards

Autographs and jersey cards are can be found, although they are considered prizes and must be redeemed. Sidney Crosby is featured on a signed NHL Icon card. Just 87 exist and they’re inserted 1:107,761 packs. He’s joined by fellow Tim Hortons spokesman, Nathan MacKinnon, who has an autographed Timbits card. A total of 100 of these are available, each landing 1:93,752 packs.

Here’s a breakdown for other 2016-17 Tim Hortons autographs and memorabilia cards:

• Autographs – 1,302 made (1:7,200)
• Jersey Relic Cards – 5,208 made (1:1,800)
• Autographed Jersey Cards – 150 made (1:62,501)

In case you’re curious about how popular the 2016-17 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey promotion is expected to be, at least 9,375,200 packs have been made. That’s enough for about 1:4 Canadians to open one.

Each 2016-17 Tim Hortons Hockey card pack comes with three cards. Each costs $1.00 with a qualifying drink purchase or $1.99 without.

2016-17 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey Binders

If you’re looking for something to store your cards in, there’s a special 2016-17 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey binder. Restaurants were sent a small number of the albums to sell. The artwork on the front is similar to the card packs with Sidney Crosby gracing the cover. Nine-pocket pages are inside already.

2016-17 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey Binder

For those without a Tim Hortons nearby or they’re local restaurant is sold out, binders can be found on eBay.

2016-17 Tim Hortons Hockey Cards Augmented Reality App

Through the use of an app, 2016-17 Tim Hortons Hockey base cards can be brought to life — in a digital sort of way. With the Tim Hortons AR Hockey Cards app open, you hover your phone over any base card.

2016-17-Tim-Hortons-Hockey-Augmented-Reality

There’s a short intro then a 3-D digital version of the player skates around. You can move your phone around to get a full 3-D view.

Collect to Win Digital Cards

Printed on the inside of each 2016-17 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey wrapper is a PIN that can be used to unlock a pack of three digital cards. The idea is that you log in to the Collect to Win website and build a full collection. Doing so makes collectors eligible for prizes including a trip to the All-Star Game.

You can also get one digital card per day simply by logging in.

I’m so excited for this years set to start. I’ve been saving extra cash in a jar since last year just for this sole purpose. It’s a win/win for me as my boys get the cards and I get the coffee ? However I’m like a kid at heart when it comes to trading … It’s so fun! Thanks I always got time for Tim Hortons?

  2. Jason Schweitzer 20 September, 2016 at 17:51

I’m still looking to complete my set from last year. I need a few more Franchise Force and Platinum Profiles. Can anyone help me out?

  3. Ryan Colpitts 21 September, 2016 at 12:05

HERE WE GO AGAIN!!! WOOOOOOO this is my new Christmas!! I had to be good and only buy on pack today, tomorrow is pay day though :D Got a McDavid Platinum this morning, so you can say I have the fever all over again. Ended up with all the base/ATI/Platinum/SF and die cuts last year. Fell short with only 4 Franchise force to go. Saved the completes for my son and sold a few of the stragglers. but in the long run (thanks to you Kijiji) I made all my money back and still got what I was after. Sadly, no Crosby/Autographs or Jersey cards last year :^/ @ Jason Schweitzer, I have about 7-8 FF and a few Platinums left from last year, what are you missing? I live in New Brunswick, But I was trading via mail as far as BC last year. Just couldn’t seem to get a basic Bryan Little card haha

  4. John Nicholls 21 September, 2016 at 22:44

I bought one pack today. I got base -Drew Doughty, Max Pacioretty and Game Day- Jonathan Toews :D. On average I’d say you’d get 2 base and 1 insert. I liked the netting background, Upper Deck doesn’t disappoint !

  5. Steve- 22 September, 2016 at 04:19

I was waiting 20 min before 12 hoping to snag a couple of packs .I was waiting for nothing thow had to wait for the morning shift .DAM it was like Xmas couldn’t sleep. I got them in the morning love these cards

  6. Ryan Colpitts 22 September, 2016 at 11:59

I opened my morning pack and my jaw hit the floor! I got a Brent Burns Common card and he still has his front teeth! ULTRA RARE ha ha, yeah no.

  7. Joey Copeland 26 September, 2016 at 08:21

3 of us at work go crazy for these every year now…love this set! (Commercials are fun, too).
We got the binder this year (rumour has it only 20 of those were given to each Tim Horton’s…well, not some of the tinier Tim’s apparently)

In any case, great info, Beckett! Thank you!

  8. Ryan Colpitts 26 September, 2016 at 09:50

Anyone here from the Maritimes? I’ve limited myself this year to only 1-2 packs a day. Out of 26 packs ,I have 3 FF’s, 2 Platinums so far this year. I’m assuming that the “Game Day Action” are this years version of the “Die Cuts” and the CCP cards are the swap for last year’s “Above the Ice”? I only collect the base set and possibly the middle tiers (Pure Gold, etc.) sets for my son. So If anybody wants to help me complete this year’s base set, I’ll loosen up the purse strings and return the favor with some high caliber cards. LET’S DO THIS!

  9. Manuel Beaulieu 27 September, 2016 at 13:42

Hey Ryan, I’m in New Brunswick and would be interested in helping you out if you could do the same. I have a few doubles already but am sure I’ll get some more.

    Anyways, lmk!

  10. Ryan Colpitts 27 September, 2016 at 15:05

@ Manual, Hey man, I have some duplicates already too. Anything specific you are looking for (Base cards, Higher sets)?I have about 35-40 of the base set done so far. I’m going to buy 10 on Thursday morning and 10 more on Saturday. Then once the dust settles, see whats missing. Where are you at in NB? I’m in Moncton/Riverview. E-mail me and we’ll see what we can accomplish. I’ll post it here because it’s a secondary e-mail and IDK about spam. Rcolpitts88@hotmail.com I also have a steady buyer from Kijiji that bought $115 off me last year and is open for more purchases if we can pull some good ones.

  11. Elizabeth 27 September, 2016 at 15:12

I am in Calgary, AB. My husband bought me a box of 100 packs yesterday. I’m missing #77 in the base set. I have quite a few duplicates. Anyone looking to trade? I am also wondering if anyone has seen any relic jersey signature cards yet?

  12. Ryan Colpitts 27 September, 2016 at 16:24

@ Elizbeth I’m considering Splitting a case with my boss and randomly selecting my 50 packs how many Franchise force/Phenom cards did you get in a case? I bought single packs last year and my boss bought a case. I came 2 shy of the franchise force set last year and he came within 6. I have 2 so far this year, Just wondering if I go for the box, or play it out with 2-3 packs a day again. I wish I lived closer. I got Victor Hedman (#77) in both my packs today :(

  13. ken.cherewko 5 October, 2016 at 08:50

  14. Ryan Colpitts 5 October, 2016 at 11:58

Anyone else having problems with “Dummy Packs”? (Packs with 2 or sometimes even just 1 card inside). I’ve gotten two this year, my co-worker bought a pack about a day later from the same Tim’s. It was almost bursting at the seem. He ended up with a 4 card pack and got a Phenom and a Game day inside. Stupid Sorting machine!….You had one job….

  15. Don shugarue 6 October, 2016 at 20:23

My kid got 2 cards in a pack,Facebook Tims and they gave me a number to called.answered a bunch of questions and then had to email telling what happened and take pictures.suppose to hear back in 2-3 days.it not the point of the card missing.its when a 10 year old looks at you and says, dad do you think a Sidney Crosby autograph card was suppose to be in there. Lol

  16. Christina 8 October, 2016 at 19:54

    @ Brian
With the help of Manuel and Canada post, I am down to 3 cards I need to complete my “Mini” set. ATM I need a base set Frans Nielsen (#51) Sam Bennett (#93) and a Pure Gold Tyler Seguin. I usually just collect the base and middle tier sets for my son. Left over for trade for higher value cards, I have… Franchise force: McDavid/Crosby/Lundqvist Platinum: JVR/Karlsson/McDavid/Price and two others (Slips my mind atm) I had a guy buy almost all my Phenoms off of Kijiji but I still have a Jack Eikle ha ha. I have about 100 Double base cards and about 2 dozen dupe Gold and Game Days. See anything you like? ;)

  21. Ryan 18 October, 2016 at 18:07

P.s. I will also trade a bunch of higher level cards for the 2017 Binder. We only got 20 in my area and they sold out before I was probably even awake! If you have one you don’t want/need or are willing to trade, Give me a shout Rcolpitts88@hotmail.com

  22. John Nicholls 24 October, 2016 at 13:31

  24. Gary 27 October, 2016 at 20:21

In the base set of 100 the number 5 Card I have him as number 52 anyone else have this as a printinting error?

  25. Ryan Colpitts 28 October, 2016 at 11:17

Finally got my set completed, with a huge help from Manuel! If anyone is missing some of the higher cards, I have the following that I’m looking to get rid of:
    FF-Crosby, FF-McDavid, FF-Lundqvist.
    PP-McDavid, PP-JVR, PP-Datsyuk, PP-Lundqvist.
    Phenom-Eichel.

HMU! This could finish your set for cheap!

  26. Anne 29 October, 2016 at 07:50

  27. Mike Doering 29 October, 2016 at 09:45

@Ryan Colpitts, I’m in need of all your FF and Phenom, I have the PP. Since you have your set complete how would you’d like to negotiate a trade?

  28. Ryan colpitts 31 October, 2016 at 11:13

@ Mike Doering, If you would like to set something up, feel free to e-mail me at Rcolpitts88@hotmail.com I have no issues sending mail orders and ,As mentioned before, I Will undersell ebay/kijiji Vendors. I’m not in this for the money, Just love collecting and trading. Hope to hear from you!

  29. Ryan colpitts 7 November, 2016 at 12:19

@ Mike, Sorry man, I’ve been out of work for a week with the stomach flu, Just noticed that the e-mail I tried to send you went to my drafts for some reason. Check for a reply now :D

  30. Peter 11 January, 2017 at 21:49

After I purchased several unopened packs on e-bay I realized that a person could simply measure the thickness of each pack to determine if there is a game jersey card inside with them being thicker than the rest. I decided to open the 35 packs anyway and guess what. No game jersey cards. Chances are I wouldn’t get one but I don’t think I’ll buy anymore

  31. chris 24 March, 2017 at 10:56

I have a tyler sequin card #89 (should be #98)

    And a #98 Devan dubnyk ( should be #42)

Is this rare or did everyone get them cards misprinted?

Let me know if you can, thanks.
