McFarlane readies high-end Derek Jeter statue

McFarlane Toys is going uptown with a limited edition statue of one Bronx Bomber.
Each limited edition statue of New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will be signed by Todd McFarlane himself when they are available for pre-order to the public beginning on April 7.
The 12-inch resin statue is the first sports figure of that type made by McFarlane, though the program started in November. It will have a pair of plaques on its base (see full image after the jump) with Jeter’s achievements during his past 17 years in pinstripes noted with the figure trimmed with a facade fitting only for a Yankee.
The pieces will all be numbered — with no more than 500 made — and will cost $225 with preorders beginning at noon Eastern time on April 7. They can only be purchased via the McFarlane Toys online store (click here). The ordering window will close at 5 p.m. Eastern on April 14 unless the statue sells out sooner. The statues will begin shipping in August and those who order them will not be charged until they are shipped.
McFarlane also is planning future releases for fellow Yankee Alex Rodriguez, Tim Lincecum, Albert Pujols, Matt Kemp and David Ortiz.

For $225 you’d think Jeter could sign it. McFarlannes auto isn’t worth that price no matter how the “statue” looks.
From what they’ve announced at least Todd’s name will be on the bottom of the base and not where you can actually see it. But I agree a facsimile signature would’ve been cool.
Jim agree 100%. Been collecting McFarlane baseball figures since series 1. Have over 200 unopened. That’s the price of chase piece on eBay. Designers should have incorporated what they did in series 26 with Prince Fielder’s gold level piece, Curt Schilling, Tony Gywnn. Auto on the base of piece, vis-a-vi a sticker auto. Not too impressed, but at least in a offensive stance nit the usual Jeter jump and throw. Times must be tough for McFarlane too, creating a high end product line. Cmon!!!
Adding a Jeter auto would put cost at $350 or more. Guaranteed.
So any word on if or when this piece will ship ?
First they said August then the rumor was they would ship the first week of September. Well here we are at the end of the first week of September and no cards have been charged and no update has been given by McFarlane.
They were also listed on MLB.com in the Fan Shop but mysteriously disappeared from the site a couple weeks ago with no explanation. No ” Sold Out ” nothing just gone like it was never there.
I’m starting to think McFarlane didn’t pre-sell enough of them to make it worth going through with production.
I just received mine and it is AWESOME!!! Will bring it to Stetner Sports And have Derek Sign the base. Some are now selling for $1200.00 unsigned and $1400.00 Signed. This item was a winner @$225.00, and they sold out PRONTO!!!
