Like the brand did in its 2015 revival, 2016 Bowman’s Best Baseball mixes big chrome designs with a checklist that balances prospects, rookies and veterans perhaps more than any other Bowman release.

2016 Bowman's Best Baseball Header

Autographs are a major focal point with four landing in every 12-pack master box. These are packaged as a pair of six-pack mini boxes.

Base Set

2016 Bowman's Best Baseball Base

The main base set is quite small with just 65 cards. Besides the usual suspects as far as veterans go, there’s Rookie Cards of Gary Sanchez, Corey Seager and more. In fact, more than a third of the 2016 Bowman’s Best base set is Rookie Cards.

Although technically inserts due to their numbering, the Prospects portion of the product is similar to the base set. A total of 35 players are featured including first overall pick in the 2016 draft, Mickey Moniak.

Like virtually every Bowman product, parallels take the Refractor route. Atomic Refractors land one per master box. Other numbered Refractors include Green, Gold, Orange (/25), Red (/5) and Superfractor (1/1).

Autographs

2016 Bowman's Best Baseball Best of 2016 Autograph Atomic Refractor

The bulk of the signatures in 2016 Bowman’s Best Baseball fall under the Best of 2016 Autographs banner. Like the main set, these cover all levels of the game from current players down to draft picks. Also like the base set, they’re done on chromium stock. A total of 77 players have Best of 2016 Autographs. On the current superstar side, there’s Kris Bryant, Mike Trout and Bryce Harper. Most of the signers are young prospects including several key picks from the 2016 MLB Draft. This is the second product with Mickey Moniak autographs following 2016 Bowman Draft, which came out just a couple of weeks earlier.

Best of 2016 Autograph parallels include Refractors, Orange Refractors, Atomic Refractors (/25), Red Refractors (/5) and Superfractors.

Dual Autographs come with two on-card signatures and have Superfractor (1/1) versions as well. All but one of these have players on the same team. The exception? The 2016 MLB MVPs, Bryant and Trout. Conveniently for Topps, they’re both exclusives with the company.

1996 Bowman’s Best Autographs bring back the 20-year-old design. These have on-card signatures as well. Parallels are limited to Atomic Refractors (/25) and Superfractors (1/1).

Inserts

Project Forecast is a set of insert cards done in partnership with Baseball America. Adding a major prospecting element these cards include a projected call-up date from BA staff for when they think players will make their MLB debuts.

Stat Lines is a new insert for Bowman’s Best that highlights big games and performances from veterans and prospects.

Mirror Image has been part of Bowman’s Best from the brands early days more than two decades ago. Each card has two players that are paired up for various reasons.

1996 Bowman’s Best has a basic insert version as well. These cards mix up retired, current and rookie players as well as prospects with the old design.

All basic inserts have Orange Refractor (/25) and Superfractor (1/1) parallels. Some players in Stat Lines and Prospect Forecast also have autographs.

Has anyone reported Error refractors? I pulled a Gurriel auto that clearly has a refractor front but is not labeled as such on the back.

  2. Gerry Katz 5 June, 2017 at 17:04

Very happy with This product, most bang for buck with 4 autos per master box.jut ordered another case.only one complaint have bought over 30 boxes never pulled dual auto, I wonder if the odds on a pull are manufactured.

  3. Gerry Katz 13 June, 2017 at 15:52

May God strike me dead for what I wrote a few days ago.i just wasted 900 onacase this product. Never in my whole life have I been ripped off like thi the value of what I bought is less then 200 , which includes 32 auto cards. This case should never have been sold it is aroottencase, Topps sold this case knowing it was bad & it ended in my hands .?
