2016 Topps Gypsy Queen Variations Gallery, Checklist
2016 Topps Gypsy Queen variations come in two forms. Sticking with tradition, there are your basic short print photo variations of regular base cards. Mini cards also have a separate batch of variations that are exclusive to bonus box toppers found in hobby boxes.
2016 Topps Gypsy Queen Variations Info
Short print photo variations simply swap out the main photo on the front. Early indications suggest that they’re a little easier to find than the past couple of years. But that doesn’t mean that they’re easy pulls by any means. Look for them to land about four per hobby case versus one or two like they have recently.

In case you need a short cut, unlike the 2016 Topps Heritage variations, the codes on the back do offer up confirmation of what is and what isn’t a 2016 Topps Gypsy Queen Baseball variation. In the fine print on the back, base cards end in 25. Short print photo variations of regular-sized cards end in 59.

Why can’t Topps decide whether to ALWAYS vary the codes based on SPs, variations, etc? One release they do it, the next they don’t and then you get to the next year’s release and it changes again… Discuss!
The codes on the back are intended for something to do with production is what I’ve been told. They’re not intended to help identify cards but collectors have turned to it in recent years.
I don’t have the disdain for variations as much as some collectors do. But IMO – if you’re going to do variations, they should be special in some way. Like a theme – they are all portrait shots (that would actually go pretty well with Gypsy Queen origins in the N187 set). Or all feature retro uniforms (which Heritage did). Or all celebrations, like pie-in-the-face cards from a few years ago.
Other than the 5 pitchers shown at the plate, these are just different photographs, most of which aren’t any more interesting than the originals.
It loses something when such a large number of cards have these variations. Should have a theme or something like that, not just a different actions shot or pose.
Why did Topps make the Matt Duffy card in Gypsy Queen a RC? Why didn’t they make his Heritage card with the RC designation?
Topps made Matt Duffy’s first card in 2015 Topps Update with the “Future Stars” label but no RC designation.
What is his true RC?
It was an error. It’s not a rookie.
Did anyone else notice that Gregory Polanco’s picture is Aramis Ramirez?
I am a beginner at card collecting. I have bought a U haul full most from 80s and 90s a few complete sets, which ones should I keep. Maybe a certain team?Atalanta braves is one I love, but I also love a lo of other team players ,I don’t know anything about card collecting but really want to learn. Thanks
Unfortunately, a lot of stuff from the 80s and 90s don’t carry a lot of value now. There are some exceptions. Your best bet would be to sort the things you want to keep for yourself. From there, see if there’s a local shop that can give you an idea of that you’ve got.
And I bought the gypsy queen set,now what to do with them?
