Our Kid Collector of the Week feature will focus on one kid each week from around the country who is deeply involved with The Hobby. Most collectors got involved when they were young and have fond memories of their early years, so we wanted to highlight kids who are just getting their start in collecting.

Kid Collector of the Week is brought to you by Southern Hobby who shares a passion for inspiring the next generation of card collectors.

This week our Kid Collectors are Noah (11) and Cole (9) from Merrick, NY. The boys enjoy going to Doc D’s Trading Cards in Bellemore, NY.

BM: How did you get involved in The Hobby?

Cole: I got into it because my dad collected cards and took me to card shops and opened packs with me.

Noah: When I saw my dad’s huge stack of autograph cards and jersey cards in his room I wanted to start collecting.

BM: How long have you been collecting?

Cole: I’ve been collecting cards for as long as I can remember.

Noah: I’ve been collecting since I was 6 years olds.

BM: What do you collect: baseball, basketball, hockey, football, non-sport, other?

Cole: I mostly collect hockey, baseball and football.  My favorite are the hockey Black Diamond packs.

Noah: Mostly hockey, football and baseball cards.

BM: What is the first card you remember?

Cole: The first I remember getting was a John Tavares patch jersey card at a card show in Westchester.

Noah: Probably my David Wright card that I pulled from a pack of team USA cards.  I though it was a real autograph and freaked out, but it turned out to be fake.

What is the best card you’ve ever pulled?

Cole: Last year I pulled a Auston Matthews jumbo patch card out of a Black Diamond box that my dad bought.

Noah: My brother always pulls the best cards. The best one I’ve ever pulled was the Joe Thornton stick card numbered to 25

BM: What’s your dream card, the one you really really want right now?

Cole: The whole Mets team booklet card with all their autographs and jerseys.  I saw it at a card show.

Noah: T206 Honus Wagner because it’s the most valuable.

BM: What is something you think that The Hobby could be doing to get more kids your age involved?

Cole: Maybe an app that you collect virtual cards.

Noah: Yea, I think an app would be a great idea because kids my age are really into social media.

What’s your favorite part about going to your local card shop?

Cole: Doc D’s. Looking at all the really cool hockey and baseball cards in the case and he’s give me bubble gum and free packs!

Noah: Doc D’s. I like going there because he has every type of card from every sport and he always gives me update on the newest cards.
