Our Kid Collector of the Week feature focuses on kids who are deeply involved with the Hobby. Most collectors got involved when they were young and have fond memories of their early years, so we highlight kids who are just getting their start in collecting.
Kid Collector of the Week is brought to you by Southern Hobby who shares a passion for inspiring the next generation of card collectors.
This week we talked to 11-year-old Eleanor from England. She doesn’t have a local card shop in the UK but likes to visit Orlando Sports Cards when she travels to Florida.
BM: How did you get involved in The Hobby?
Eleanor: I got involved In this Hobby because I saw my dad opening all these packs of cards and I really wanted to try it to.
BM: How long have you been collecting?
Eleanor: I first started collecting in 2015.
BM: What do you collect: baseball, basketball, hockey, football, non-sport, other?
Eleanor: I like to collect baseball and non sports (films and tv shows).
BM: What is the first card you remember?
Eleanor: The first card I remember is a Colorado rockies mascot, Dinger card. It’s a pretty funny first card to remember, he’s a big purple dinosaur! My favorite player is Hunter Pence though, so that’s one of the cards I’m holding in the photo.
BM: What is the best card you’ve ever pulled?
Eleanor: An authentic prop card from Harry Potter 3D 2nd edition from Artbox. It was part of a book from Professor McGonagall’s class and it was 028/310. And the other best one was a Jose Altuve Auto / relic from Topps Baseball Series 1 postseason performance that was 22/35.
BM: What’s your dream card, the one you really really want right now?
Eleanor: My dream card that I really want right now is an Emma Watson autograph on a Hermione Granger card. I’m a big Harry Potter fan!
BM: What is something you think that the Hobby could be doing to get more kids your age involved?
Eleanor: They could make more varieties of cards at a lower price like Topps did with the big league product this year.
BM: What’s your favorite part about going to your local card shop?
Eleanor: Because we live in England we don’t have a local card shop so my dad orders them in from America for us to open, my favourite part is opening them for our YouTube Chanel the fan cave.
