By Chris Olds | Beckett Baseball Editor
This year’s Bowman baseball cards have just arrived — now it’s time to preview Bowman Draft.
Topps released the basic details and first preview images for its annual release showcasing the newest draft picks, 2014 Bowman Draft, on Thursday morning.
Set to arrive on Nov. 12, the hobby-only product will include one autograph per hobby box with a selection of cards from the 220-card prospects sets in both standard and Chrome format. Each pack will include five draft picks or prospects cards along with two Chrome cards with 24 packs per box and 12 boxes per hobby case.
Each standard card will have eight parallels. Serial-numbering was not announced but there will be Blue, Red, Silver Ice, Red Ice, Purple Ice, White Ice and 1/1 Black and printing plate versions to chase. For the Chromes, there will be standard Refractors as well as Blue, Green, Gold, Black, Orange, Red and 1/1 Superfractors along with printing plates. There also will be Wave Refractor Hot Packs, which began with Bowman this year.
For the autographs, there will be 1/1 Superfractor and printing plate autos while quantities were not announced for the rest of the rainbow, which will include standard Refractors along with Blue, Green, Gold, Black, Orange, Purple and Red cards for collectors to chase.
Among the insert card lineup will be Bowman Initiation, a serial-numbered insert, Future of the Franchise Mini Chromes that can also be found with Superfractor parallels, Dual Draftees, Draft Night and Bowman Scouts’ Breakouts. The last three inserts also will have autographed versions. The Duals will pair two picks together while Draft Night will feature images taken from the night of the draft. The Breakouts will be a diecut insert.
Two continuity programs continue here with the 1989 Bowman is Back run in Silver Diamond Refractors, which will have Supers, and there will be the latest batch of Bowman Black autos, which will also have a Violet parallel.
Rounding out the offerings are a selection of Futures Game Relics that will be numbered and have 1/1 Black parallels as well as autographed cards from past high school All-American events Topps has done. There also will be an MLB Draft Ticket card, presumably a contest to attend the draft, for collectors to chase.
A preliminary checklist was not released.
