1992 Upper Deck Minor League Baseball marked the first time the card maker ventured into the minors. The base set featured 330 cards, with a design that mirrored the regular 1992 UD release. You know the look, that classic early Upper Deck look with the white borders — very clean.

In addition to the base set there are a couple of insert sets. Player of the Year inserts are found in every nine packs. Carlos Delgado and Chipper Jones both have cards in that checklist. There were also some awesome Top Prospect Holograms. These are tougher to pull, and supposedly landing about twice per box. The checklist for that one is just nine players long, with Chipper once again being the highlight.

If Hall of Famer players are your thing, this set features three of them. Derek Jeter and Trevor Hoffman both have base cards while Chipper is featured twice.

Pack 3:

Brien Taylor

Pack 4:

Troy O’Leary & Derek Jeter

Pack 5:

Steve Trachsel, Michael Tucker, Rondell White CL & Dmitri Young CL

Steve Karsay & Brien Taylor CL

Pack 7:

Carl Everett & Trevor Hoffman

Pack 8:

Marty Cordova & Chad Ogea Players of the Year (1:9 packs)

Is Lowe signing an autograph or taking notes? Either way, this is a great card.

Pack 10:

A classic triple exposure Eduardo Perez, Ugueth Urbina & Shannon Stewart

Pack 11:

Rondell White & Scott Hatteberg

Pack 12:

Robb Nen & Calvin “Pokey” Reese

Pack 13:

Pokey Reese, Cliff Floyd & Shawn Green

Green was drafted out of high school in the middle of the first round in 1991. Before making his major league debut in 1993, he was ranked the 47th best prospect in baseball.

Tony Tarasco & Dmitri Young

Pack 15:

John Mabry

Pack 16:

Alex Gonzalez & David Bell

Yes, the same Scott Burrell that would go on to play eight seasons in the NBA. He won an NBA championship in 1998.

How could I not show off Haynes with his helicopter-style frisbee?

Pack 22:

Brien Taylor CL & Robb Nen

Pack 23:

Damon Buford

Pack 24:

James Baldwin & David McCarty CL

McCarty tragically passed away in April. He was just 54-years old.

Pack 25:

Chipper Jones & Troy Percival

Pack 26:

Alex Gonzalez, Doug Glanville & Rondell White

Pack 27:

Benji Gil

Pack 28:

Mike Lansing, Cliff Floyd & Frank Rodriguez CL

Frankie Rodiguez was once a top-10 prospect. Unfortunately, he didn’t pan out in the majors.

Pack 29:

Midre Cummings, Carl Everett & Manny Ramirez

Pack 30:

Chipper Jones & Brien Taylor

There it is! The best base card in the set!

Pack 31:

Raul Mondesi

Pack 32:

Alex Gonzalez

Pack 33:

Justin Thompson

Pack 34:

Alex Gonzalez, Manny Ramirez & Dmitri Young

Pack 35:

Alex Gonzalez, Adam Hyzdu & Marty Cordova

Pack 36:

Pokey Reese & Cliff Floyd

Lastly, the Manny card back. They definitely got Manny’s peak power rating right.

Strange rip here. While Top Prospect Holograms are slated to fall twice per box, this box had zero. This is unfortunate, because they are great.
