Bring on the rookie cards! 2015-16 NHL rookie debut tracker
By Ryan Cracknell | Hobby Editor
One of the nice things about hockey is that there isn’t a lot of confusion when it comes to NHL rookie cards. Simply put, players don’t get to appear in an NHL set before they debut with their big club.
Even though many knew heading into the year, the list of 2015-16 NHL rookies is still shaping up to be a strong one.
Connor McDavid is the obvious big name. An NHL rookie hasn’t had this much hype since Sidney Crosby. And while the future looks bright in Edmonton, Jack Eichel, the second pick in the 2015 draft, is off to a hot start in Buffalo. Other rookies making their presence known early in the season include Dylan Larkin (Detroit), Nikolaj Ehlers (Winnipeg) and Artemi Panarin (Chicago).
In an effort to help you keep tabs on who is now eligible for rookie cards in 2015-16 NHL products, here’s a list of players who have made their debuts this season.
It is important to remember that just because a player is eligible for their rookie cards, it doesn’t guarantee they’ll be included in products. That being said, many sets strive to build deep rookie checklists to uncover hidden gems and local favorites.

Although he’s a carryover, shouldn’t Andrew Copp be listed under the Jets, as this is his Rookie Season, and only made his debut in cards this season? (O-Pee-Chee)
This list only includes players making their NHL debut in 2015-16. Carry-overs from last season are not included.
Mikko Rantanen plays for Colorado not Columbus.
Several players from this list have cards that are not included in Beckett data base. For example:
Ben Hutton (Canucks) has already 2 cards from his time in U. of Maine
2012-13 #8 Maine Black Bears – Gossamer Press [NCAA]
2013-14 #21 Maine Black Bears – Gossamer Press [NCAA]
Radek Faksa
2011-12 12 Kitchener Rangers – Extreme Sports Cards [OHL]
2012-13 20 Kitchener Rangers – Extreme Sports Cards [OHL]
2014-15 22 Texas Stars – Choice Marketing [AHL]
Thanks! I’ll forward the details on to the database team.
When you click on the Erik Gustafsson on the Blackhawks, you get listings for the Erik Gustafsson that played for the flyers and had cards back in 2011-12. Is it the same player?
