BGS High Spots: Drew Brees
It’s hard to argue about the stats. In fact, they speak for themselves. During his career, Drew Brees threw for over 80K yards, tossed 571 touchdowns, won a Super Bowl, and was a 13x Pro Bowler. All of that adds up to serious interest from the hobby now that he has hung up his cleats. So, here are three cards collectors may want to follow in our BGS High Spots: Drew Brees edition.
2001 Bowman Chrome Autographs #BCDB Drew Brees
Collectors have been chattering for years now about exclusive licenses. Some love them and others, well, let’s just say they don’t. Back in 2001 collectors weren’t worried about said deals and there were plenty of manufactures producing NFL trading cards. Obviously, Topps had their hand in the cookie jar and produced this beauty. These cards don’t hit the market too often, but I suspect you might start to see them more. Currently, the BGS Pop Report shows just 26 copies of this card, and only three of those copies are graded Gem Mint.
2001 Playoff Contenders #124 Drew Brees AU/500* RC
Drew’s next-best rookie card, if there is such a thing, is his Contenders Rookie. Late last week the card pictured below sold for $20K. Just a few days later you would have to think that it might sell for a little more. Our Pop Report shows that there are just 190 of these in BGS slabs, and none higher than the nine grade Gem Mint.
2019 Absolute Kaboom Gold #6 Drew Brees
Jumping way ahead in Drew’s career, our last entry is his Gold Kaboom from 2019 Absolute. Panini’s Kaboom design has been a great addition to the hobby in recent years. The scarcity factor of the Gold parallel makes this card extra tough with just 10 copies. With that being said, there are five on the pop report, but just this one Pristine 10. It’s currently listed for $15K on the secondary market.
There are plenty of other Drew Brees cards available. In fact, you should probably take a look at our Most Valuable Drew Brees Rookies to get a feel for what’s out there. The cards here are merely a few to keep an eye on as this all-time great begins his retirement. I’m sure as time progress there will be others to add to the BGS High Spots: Drew Brees edition.
