Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – February 12, 2022

Welcome to another edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we have fun and take a quick look at what’s getting the love and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports. It’ll also give you a brief reprieve from the many, many hours of Super Bowl pre-game hype. That said, the big game factors largely into this week’s list.

In case you haven’t heard, the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams face-off on Sunday for Super Bowl LVI. It’s a fresh and exciting match-up with lots of potential breakout stars looking to find a place in history. Joe Burrow continues to lead the way. Not only is he young and exciting with plenty of years ahead of him, but he has that x-factor about him that’s rare. People seem to care what Burrow does off the field as much as on it.

Teammate Ja’Marr Chase is now the NFL’s reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year beating out Mac Jones, Trevor Lawrence and more.

For the Rams, the combination Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford are the hobby names to keep an eye on Sunday (although Aaron Donald isn’t far behind). Both have seen a strong uptick in interest among collectors all season. For Kupp, he’s now one of the game’s elite players. In hobby circles, the only thing holding him back is the fact that he’s not a quarterback. For Stafford, he’s finally getting the wins to go with his skills. It has been a long time coming, but his moment has arrived.

The big thing to watch for in the week ahead is the release of 2022 Topps Series 1 Baseball. It’s a week later than originally planned, but the new baseball card season is officially here.
