2017 Topps WWE Road to Wrestlemania Header

By Ryan Cracknell | Hobby Editor

From a brand split to the push of some new faces on the big stage, WWE has seen a lot of on-screen change since 2016’s WrestleMania. While the flagship Topps WWE line covers the “who,” 2017 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania delves into a year’s worth of action and story threads.

Base Set

2017 Topps WWE Road to Wrestlemania Red

The 100-card base set focuses on big-time matches and rivalries from WrestleMania 32 through the months that followed. This approach differs from most other wrestling sets in that it’s story-driven.

Parallels include Bronze (1:2 packs), Blue (/99), hobby-exclusive Silver (/25), Gold (/10) and Red (1/1).

Autographs and Memorabilia Cards

Each 2017 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania hobby box has two autograph or memorabilia cards. This has been the standard for the majority of the card maker’s wrestling sets for several years.

Basic Autographs cover current wrestlers — men and women — plus retired stars and NXT prospects. Parallels come in Blue (/50), Silver (/25), Gold (/10) and Red (1/1). Based on the product’s sell sheet, autographs are done on stickers.

Dual Autographs are randomly inserted. However, numbered to 10, they’re not easy pulls.

Relics come in two forms, shirts and mats. Shirt Relics have pieces of clothing worn by the wrestlers. Parallels are similar to Autographs with Blue (/50), Silver (/25), Gold (/10) and Red (1/1). Select superstars also have Autographed Shirt Relics.

Triple Threat Autographed Dual Relics run the gamut with an autograph, shirt swatch and a piece of WrestleMania 32 canvas. These are numbered to 10.

Mat Relics fall under two main categories: WrestleMania 32 and NXT Takeover: Dallas. These come with pieces of the mat from these major events. Blue (/50), Silver (/25), Gold (/10) and Red (1/1) make up the parallels. Both types of Mat Relics have autographed versions as well.

Kiss Cards return with actual lip imprints from members of the main roster’s Women’s Division and the ladies of NXT. Autographed versions are also available. Parallels for both include Gold (/10) and Red (1/1).

The only manufactured relics in 2017 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania are Andre the Giant Battle Royal Commemorative Trophy Relics.

2017 Topps WWE Road to Wrestlemania John Cena Tribute

Following with Topps’ trend of highlighting specific stars over the course of a year, the John Cena Tribute set kicks off in 2017 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania. Other recent tribute subjects include The Rock, Triple H, Hulk Hogan, Sting, Bret Hart and Brock Lesnar.

I really like the concept and the look this year. Topps gets better and better each year with its wrestling releases.
