2016 Panini NBA Player of the Day Promotion Details and Checklist
By Stephen Laroche | Beckett Basketball Editor
The NBA playoffs just got a bit more interesting for basketball card collectors with the 2016 Panini NBA Player of the Day promotion, which has proven to be very popular in other sports.
Each store that participates in the 2016 Panini NBA Player of the Day promotion will be given a complimentary merchandise kit to be utilized for related in-store activities. In addition to at least 100 packs of NBA Player of the Day cards, they will get Panini swag which includes posters, bags, and even phone chargers.
Also included among the promotional items is a special autographed NBA Player of the Day card which has been slabbed by Beckett Grading Services that is given to the winning collector at each participating store. There are over 50,000 prizes up for grabs, one of which is the chance to spend the day with an NBA player.
“The Player of the Day promotion helps hobby shops sell more trading cards while rewarding collectors who purchase Panini products,” said Jason Howarth, Panini America’s Vice President of Marketing in a statement on the company’s official blog. “We are thrilled to offer this promotion to hobby shops in support of our NBA trading cards and also make one collector’s dream come true by rewarding an opportunity to spend a day with an NBA player.”
Collectors visiting one of 375 hobby shops running the 2016 Panini NBA Player of the Day promo will spot a poster showing a player from every NBA club. Every day, there is a new Player of the Day and there are a pair of wild card talents in Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant. By purchasing packs of Panini’s NBA cards and pulling the active Player of the Day or wild card, they will receive a prize.
Every week, the stores will hold a draw from the daily winner pool and hand out a weekly prize. At the end of the month, the grand prize of the autograph card ends up in the hands of a lucky collector – whose name is also put into a national draw.
The NBA Player of the Day base set is made up of 25 cards and is split up between 15 vets and 10 freshmen. These cards will have a Cracked Ice parallel version and collectors have a chance to pull one of nine different memorabilia cards which includes a strong selection of rookies.
Collectors that do not have a local hobby shop do not need to worry about not having a chance to take part in the NBA Player of the Day promotion. By following @PaniniPOD on Twitter, they can show their passion for the hobby and enter into contests where some of these cards will be given away.
