2016 Topps Archives Snapshots Baseball makes use of the company’s vault for candid images of past and present players. The online-exclusive features 12 cards per box, one of which is an autograph. The price tag? $24.99.

Base Set

The 2016 Topps Archives Snapshots Baseball main set has 50 cards. Ten are included in each box so a full set shouldn’t be too tricky an undertaking other than the through-the-mail distribution. The checklist features a mix of veterans, some rookies, a handful of Hall of Famers and other notable retired players.

Base cards have Black and White parallels, which are inserted one per box.

The design is a simple one with the focus being on the images. They come direct from Topps as opposed to most sets today that rely on Getty Images. The approach is similar to the metal Vault Originals inserts found in 2016 Topps Legacies of Baseball (minus the metal stock).

Autographs

There’s a lot of overlap between the 2016 Topps Archives Snapshots Baseball main set and autographs. A total of 36 different signatures are available. While there are some big names like Ken Griffey Jr. and Kris Bryant, there are also some names that don’t have such a broad level of popularity in the hobby like B.J. Surhoff and A.J. Pollack. It’s a similar approach as the Fan Favorites Autographs that are a staple in the bigger Topps Archives releases. Another thing to take into account here is print runs. Autographs are serial numbered and there’s a big range between the most common and those that are rare. Common names have 350 copies each. On the opposite end, a handful of players — primarily the biggest — have less than 20 copies each.

Autographs have two levels of parallels: Black and White (/10) and Negative (/5).

This is the third release this year to use the Archives banner following the main release and 2016 Archives Signature Series, a product consisting solely of autographed buyback cards of retired players.

Bought two boxes/packs and the cards in each pack were identical except for the black and white parallel. What a disappointment with two Bob Boone autographs also which are hand numbered 127 and 128 of 350.
