2017 Upper Deck SkyBox Clerks Trading Cards Checklist and Details
Clerks is one of those movies that changed the game. Shot on a tiny budget, in black and white no less, it helped make indie films mainstream in the 1990s. Of course, it also launched the career of Kevin Smith and introduced the world to Jay and Silent Bob. Now, more than 20 years after the movie hit the big screen, come 2017 Upper Deck SkyBox Clerks trading cards, complete with autographs, sketch cards and more.
While the images may lack color, there’s still plenty to draw from for the base set. From great characters to classic lines to some truly bizarre moments, there’s no shortage of material.
Each pack also has a foil parallel, some of which are numbered to 37 — a reference Clerks fans should pick up on. There are also Gold Quick Stop parallels and randomly inserted printing plates.
Autographs are a focal point in 2017 Upper Deck SkyBox Clerks. They come with seven different designs, all with on-card signatures. Kevin Smith, Brian O’Halloran (Dante), Jeff Anderson (Randal) and Jason Mewes (Jay) are among the set’s signers. Signed cards are included two per box or 1:10 packs.
Inserts combine to land one per pack. One set features a detailed look at material from the film taken from the collection of Kevin Smith. The director/writer/star/producer also adds notes, providing further insight into the movie.
Walt Flanagan of Comic Book Men — not to mention the egg guy in Clerks — interprets video covers for a certain order that’s placed in the movie. Again, a reference fans should get and a reminder that this set’s not for kids even if Happy Scrappy, Hero Pup is one of the cards.
Other inserts include one-per-box Manufactured Patch cards and sketch cards, which are a case hit.
Expect 2017 Upper Deck SkyBox Clerks boxes to run around $100.
While this is the first full release for the film, Upper Deck hosted a signing with Smith, Mewes and O’Halloran at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con where a special card was handed out for the signatures.
