Vernon Wells hosts sports stars for charity event
Toronto Blue Jays star Vernon Wells is expecting a large number of sports stars at The Vernon Wells Perfect 10 Foundation‘s inaugural gala and golf tournament next month in the Dallas area.
And he wants you to be there, too.
The event, which is set for Nov. 1-2 at the Four Seasons Resort and Club in Las Colinas, Texas, and will raise money to support and protect homeless children in North Texas and to contribute to non-profit organizations for children. The provisional lineup for the golf tournament on Nov. 2, includes Ken Griffey Jr., Derek Jeter, Emmitt Smith, CC Sabathia, Andy Pettitte, Michael Young, Ian Kinsler, Torii Hunter, Michael Irvin, Kevin Millwood, Josh Beckett, Andruw Jones, A.J. Burnett, Scott Murray, Tom Grieve, Mark McLemore, Larry Brown, Jim Sundberg, James Denton, Aaron Hill, Orlando Hudson, Hal Sutton, Roger Staubach, Homer Bush, Jose Guzman and Dave Stewart among others. Each foursome will have a designated athlete on its team for the shotgun start/scramble event. The tournament begins at noon.
For the autograph collectors, there is a sports health forum planned for 10 a.m. before the tournament at the Four Seasons. The cost of attendance is $25 and includes an autograph session after the forum featuring Wells and other athletes in the event.
A goal for the Foundation is to open a general residential operation for homeless children. The facility will also offer short-term shelter for children displaced by Child Protective Services.
