Welcome to another edition Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take a quick look and what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports and sports cards.

The 2022-23 NBA basketball card season is officially underway. This week saw the arrival of 2022-23 Panini NBA Hoops. Not only does the set have the first pack-based cards of Paolo Banchero and other members of the 2022 draft class in their NBA uniforms, but there are lots of other inserts and colorful designs. The start is later than many are used to but from here on out there should be a steady flow of products — even if there is some overlap with the remaining handful of 2021-22 releases.

As for other products continuing to command attention, there’s 2022 Bowman Draft Baseball and 2022 Panini Mosaic Football.

This weekend marks the start of the NFL playoffs and the march towards Super Bowl LVII in Arizona. Several teams enter the postseason hot, but from a hobby perspective, there’s nobody more intriguing right now than San Francisco’s Brock Purdy. The rookie was an afterthought at the start of the season but with injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, he found himself as the starter on one of the best teams in the league. Purdy has led the 49ers to wins in all five of his starts. Understandably, his cards have soared. But there are still lots of questions as to what will happen next with the team. For San Francisco, it’s a good position to be in. For those speculating on Purdy’s cards, it’s trickier.
