3 Basketball Rookies to Consider This Offseason – Beckett Pricing Insider
Now that the NBA playoffs are in full swing, much of the hobby hype surrounding the 2018-19 rookie class has died down. Consider picking up some cards of these three players before NBA Summer League begins:
1. Marvin Bagley III, Sacramento Kings
Notable Sale – 2018-19 Panini Contenders Championship Ticket AU 1/1 – $2,600
The number two overall pick flew a bit under the radar this year. He was the only top pick that didn’t start for his team, and he missed 20 games due to injury. Still, Bagley finished fifth among rookies in scoring (14.9) and third in rebounding (7.6), providing a major production boost off the Sacramento bench. Expect an expanded role and bigger stats next season.
2. Jaren Jackson, Memphis Grizzlies
Notable Sale – 2018-19 Select Rookie Signatures Prizms Gold /10 – $200
Jackson was drawing serious collector interest early on, but a season-ending injury in February has had him “out of sight, out of mind” hobby wise. His cards are considerably affordable, with the potential for major gains down the line. Memphis is in serious retooling mold, and he is the centerpiece of the rebuilding process. The Grizzlies are thinking they have a future star in Jackson.
3. Collin Sexton – Cleveland Cavaliers
Notable Sale – 2018-19 Panini Impeccable Holo Gold JSY AU /10 – $650
Sexton had a shaky start to the season, but he ended up third among rookies in scoring (16.7) while playing in all 82 games. His cards saw a slight boost around March when he averaged 22.4 points on 51 percent shooting, and the potential exists for future growth. However, his hobby standing remains uncertain as long as Cleveland continues as an Eastern Conference cellar dweller.
