Baseball cards and mistaken identities have been around for decades. Usually it’s in the form of a wrong photo on the front. But the 2019 Topps Stadium Club Shane Bieber has a slip up that could be a first. The blurb on the card back gets the 2019 All-Star Game MVP mixed up with another “Bieber” — pop star Justin Bieber.

And both Shane Bieber and his team took to Twitter to point out the error on Saturday.

Topps’ response was on point, taking a line from one ofBieber’s (the singer) songs.

And then things got a little more crazy the next day when “the other Bieber” chimed in.

The 2019 Topps Stadium Club Shane Bieber Isn’t a Rare Error

In a development that probably shouldn’t come as a surprise, the 2019 Stadium Club Shane Bieber has gained a lot of attention and inflated prices on eBay. Early Sunday, many had Buy It Now sales of more than $40. Several have already closed since for much less than that, but still for $15 and more for a card that was essentially a common just a few days ago.

It’s important to note that while the 2019 Topps Stadium Club Shane Bieber is an error, all of the cards are the same. The “Justin” version is all of them — even parallels. It’s not some scarce variation. The sports card industry is in a different place than it was a few decades ago. It’s extremely rare that errors like this get corrected now. Those paying the high premiums right now aren’t likely to be big-time card collectors.

Like a lot of celebrities, this card will have some time in the spotlight. It will forever have a story attached to it now, which makes it notable. Just to most, probably not $15 notable.

That’s just crazy. People have no idea that these are plentiful. They should sell for no more than $1 each.
