2017 Panini Black Friday brings back the popular hobby shop promotion for another go. This means a wide variety of exclusive cards, not to mention crowds and community at your local hobby shop. And being around card collectors is probably more fun than fighting it out for TVs and Hatchimals at your local Walmart.

Once again, 2017 Panini Black Friday has two separate but similar sets. One is solely football. The other combines the remaining sports in Panini’s portfolio.

2017 Panini Black Friday Football

The 2017 Panini Black Friday Football base set comes with 75 cards. Twenty-five rookies are serial-numbered to 399 copies. On top of those are a variety of parallels numbered to a high of 50 all the way down to one-of-one.

2017 Panini Black Friday Football Carson Wentz

Panini Collection inserts focus on unique photography, offering some perspectives not often seen on cards.

2017 Panini Black Friday Panini Collection Odell Beckham Jr.

Panini makes it a tradition of using some non-traditional pieces of memorabilia in their promo sets. Once again, that means things like towels and the player-worn Santa hats found in Happy Holidays. Tools of the Trade and Salute to Service are some of the returning memorabilia releases.

Also back are Super Bowl Memorabilia cards. These come with pieces of Super Bowl LI footballs and pylons embedded in them.

2017 Panini Black Friday Multi-Sport

2017 Panini Black Friday Multi-Sport packs include athletes from baseball, basketball, NASCAR and soccer. The make-up is similar to the football-only set, starting with the 75-card base set. Once again, 25 rookies have 399 copies each. Parallels come in a variety of forms, numbered to 50, 25, 10 and 1/1.

2017 Panini Black Friday Kyrie Irving

The inserts and bonus cards are also a different spin on football sets. For memorabilia, that means more Tools of the Trade cards, Happy Holidays cards with hats worn by athletes in other sports and more. There’s also Headbands, with player-worn pieces of headgear.

Panini Collection has another 25 cards in this portion of the 2017 Panini Black Friday promotion as well.

This isn’t the only hobby shop promotion in November, either. Topps has a separate holiday promo set available a week earlier, starting November 17.

Eligible Products

Black Friday is a promotion available exclusively to hobby shops. Online retailers and breakers have their own separate 2017 Panini Cyber Monday promotional set.

Stores get packs by purchasing certain products, each with its own allotment. While shop owners can hand out the packs as they wish, usually that means simply passing on what they get to their customers.

Here’s a list of participating products along with how many 2017 Panini Black Friday packs are allotted for each box (from distributor to dealer):

• 2016-17 Panini Grand Reserve Basketball – 12
• 2016-17 Panini Noir Basketball – 4
• 2016-17 Panini Preferred Basketball – 5

Hi I have a 2017 Black Friday autographed Carson Wentz, it looks like the base set card, could you tell many how many of his were signed? Thanks for any help

    • Ryan Cracknell 27 April, 2018 at 09:31

@Garrett – They’re listed on the checklist as base parallels. Panini announced 25 or less exist for each, but nothing more specific beyond that.

  2. craig Engstrom 1 October, 2018 at 19:20

Hi Ryan I also have a 2017 Black Friday autographed Matthew Stafford could you tell many how many of his were signed? Are you saying there are only 25 of these cards made? that would be very rare. one last question. Is it the actual card that the athlete signs or do they sign a piece of tape and they stick it to the card?
    thank you. Craig

    • Ryan Cracknell 2 October, 2018 at 10:39

@Craig — An exact number wasn’t released other than autographs having “25 copies or less.” So, at most, there are 25.

Different sets take different approaches to autographs. Some are on-card, some use stickers that are signed then added to cards and some can even use different materials that are embedded in the card.

    • Ryan Cracknell 2 October, 2018 at 20:45

@Craig – I believe all of the base card autographs in this set are stickers. You should be able to see or feel the sticker if there is one as it’s placed on top of the card.

  3. craig Engstrom 2 October, 2018 at 22:22

i thought the sticker might be placed on there to protect the autograph. there is a hologram sticker covering the autograph or the sticker is the actual autograph ?? Looking at it through high magnification it looks like the sticker is covering it but I could be wrong??
