Starting Lineup Figures Are Back — As a Stadium Giveaway

A couple days ago, it looked like one of the biggest brands in 1990s collecting, Starting Lineup, was making a comeback. It is, but not in a full fledged form. According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, the comeback is limited, for now, to a Tampa Bay Buccaneers stadium giveaway.
The Bucs will hand out Jameis Winston Starting Lineup figures to those attending the team’s October 30 game against the Oakland Raiders.
The figure captures the spirit of classic SLU figures. That means it’s a rough likeness and not the realistic sculpts a lot of mainstream sports figures have today. Even though the figure itself might not have a lot of details, the overall package does when it comes to the little things. Specifically, if things stay true to the mock-up, the Winston SLU also includes an exclusive card.

Rovell’s article touches on how the Bucs were able to resurrect the brand by tracking down the person who has the rights to the line now.

This is my favorite stadium giveaway idea ever. I may track one of these down, and I am in no way a Winston or Bucs fan. Kuddos on a great 90’s throwback.
I agree, as a SLU collector back in the day I like to see a comeback but don’t think they will ever be as hot as they were 20 years ago. They just took up too much room…bobble heads will most likely reign over SLUs but it is an awesome way to breath life into them. Now I’m off to the storage unit to see how my SLUs have faired over the last 20 years
