Exquisite Collection is returning — and it’s returning soon.

Upper Deck announced on Tuesday that its highest-end line is on its way in basketball as 2011-12 Exquisite will arrive “in the coming weeks” with five autographed in every box.

According to Upper Deck, all rookie autographs will be limited to 199 or fewer copies, while there will be multi-signed cards limited to five or less to go along with some behemoth autograph creations that will include as many as 12 signatures.

New this year will be “championship bling” cards of top-name stars such as Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, LeBron James, Magic Johnson David Robinson and Bill Walton that will note championship seasons with a historic ring-focused feel.

Also to be found will be shadowbox autograph cards as well as UD Black autographs, which will include Coaches Blackboard, Bio-Scripts and autographed patch cards.

So, given that it’s not a licensed NBA product, are you still going to list it with the NBA cards
rather than the minor league /college cards?

Also, will you be paying any attention to the “rookie” stamp, perhaps marking them as XRC cards?

Kawhi Leonard and all of last year’s class are rookies just as Jordan, Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Ewing, and the rest were 1986 Fleer rookies.

Learn some history or keep quiet.

Those Champ Rings look cool. Such an original design. Haven’t seen something like that since, oh, 2012 Topps Baseball. My only question is: Where are the PMGs? UD rubes will eat this crap up.

What is the purpose? The “hobby” is no longer affordable as it is! The rich try to get richer, and low end cards are worthless. Do you think a normal kid will ever be able to collect like the old days? Scarce card shops, and shows that sell for top $, while buying at maybe 20-25%. Sad, Sad, Sad!

Nice looking product but they won’t get any of my money. Products like this, Triple Threads, National Treasures and other high end products have kiled the hobby. Who can afford this other then a very small percentage of people. Oh well, to each his own.

Amazing, UD can sell 6 cards for almost $900. What has this hobby become? I’m just going vintage, and choose one or two current players to collect. It’s sad that the hobby reflects the wealth distribution of the country. The poor get to buy retail packs/boxes that are worthless while the rich can feast on products like this that most people can only dream about. Sad, sad, sad…

This is a great hobby! There is something out there for all types of collectors, something for every budget. To those who can afford to bust a box of Exquisite for their own enjoyment, I’m glad you had a good time. To those who bust open a box for the chance of pulling a Michael Jordan Auto (I’ve read there is AT LEAST ONE JORDAN AUTO per 3 box case) and sell the rest on eBay, I hope you make money. To those who buy a case of Exquisite to sell (09-10 Exquisite Basketball boxes sell on eBay for $1500 to $2000 each and they DO NOT average a Jordan Auto per case) a couple of years from now, you’re a wise man. If you don’t want to shell out $870 per box but enjoy joining group breaks, good for you. If you want to wait until the singles hit eBay and hunt for bargains or only buy your favorites, you are in for some great cards.

Exquisite is as the name implies, a collection of the most beautiful cards in the hobby (o.k., my opinion, maybe yours). Feedback from my customers since 2003-04 Exquisite Basketball leads me to conclude, Exquisite Basketball is the most desired/talked about product I’ve sold. This product has produced some of the most sought after singles in modern collecting. If you are an investor, box buster, group breaker, or singles buyer, Exquisite has something for every basketball collector. My customers can’t wait until October 16th.
