Topps announces World Baseball Classic box set
Topps will release a 55-card set of World Baseball Classic cards as a $10 box set on March 11. Here’s a sneak peak and look at the checklist, which leads off with Japanese star Yu Darvish as card No. 1.
Darvish has a 48-19 career record in four seasons in Japan, including 585 strikeouts in 652 innings pitched. He might be one of the next stars to make the leap to Major League Baseball.
The set, which includes players from 16 countries, is one of several WBC items that Topps is producing this year.
Chris Olds has collected sports cards and memorabilia since 1987. Before coming to Beckett Media, he wrote about the hobby for the Orlando Sentinel on his blog, SportsStuff, and for the San Antonio Express-News and The Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News. Cool, I’m excited!
Ten bucks for the set. Yeah! That’s a sweet price for a nice collection like this. I’m gonna search eBay for the complete 2009 set. Hopefully the 2013 set will be similarly priced.
