Tiger Woods is back? Yep, and on Upper Deck cards, too
While Upper Deck hasn’t released a PGA set since 2004, the company is including the world’s most popular golfer, Tiger Woods, on cards in a variety of recently released and upcoming sports card products.
First, Tiger can be found in football — in packs of 2008 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Football, which arrived in hobby shops last week, and 2008 Exquisite Football which arrives on March 4.
A Ultimate Champions Signatures card from Ultimate Collection (top) show Tiger at the 2008 U.S. Open, while the Exquisite Rookie Signature cards (above right) include an autograph and a piece of event-used shirt. Woods added an inscription “08 U.S. Open champion” to one card from each set.
But they’re not done there.
In baseball, Upper Deck’s 20th Anniversary cards will showcase more than a few Woods cards — both standard and memorabilia releases — because he has been one of the most notable athletes of the last two decades. He’ll appear on several cards in the 2,500-card behemoth insert set spread out over several baseball releases this year.
Woods also will appear in the upcoming Goudey baseball set as part of the Sports Royalty subset. As with some previous releases, he will sign a limited number of cards for inclusion in packs.
Chris Olds has collected sports cards and memorabilia since 1987. Before coming to Beckett Media, he wrote about the hobby for the Orlando Sentinel on his blog, SportsStuff, and for the San Antonio Express-News and The Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News.
