Olympic hockey jerseys hit auction block for charity
By Russ Cohen
Diehard hockey fans probably already know about it, but the NHLPA has a great hockey jersey auction going right now and there are some doozies. Sidney Crosby’s jersey from the Canada vs. Germany game has topped$26,000, while Chicago’s Jonathan Toews’ Canada sweater at $2,125.
Now those aren’t the only jerseys. Alexander Ovechkin’s jersey (June 8) from the Russia vs. Czech Republic will soon go on sale as well as the Patrick Kane Team USA (Tuesday, along with some of his other teammates) worn against Switzerland.
Team Finland (May 25), Slovakia and Sweden (June 1), Czech Republic (June 8) and Switzerland, Belarus, Norway, Germany and Latvia auctions will begin June 15.
Bargain hunters might wait until the June 15 auctions as there are some intriguing players like Andres Ambuhl (SUI, Rangers prospect), Luca Sbisa (SUI, Ducks defenseman), Sergei Kostitsyn (BEL, Habs), Marcel Goc (GER, Predators), Karlis Skrastins (Latvia, Stars, has the NHL record for 495 consecutive games as a defenseman).
Proceeds from the auctions will be donated to Hockey For Haiti.
