Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – April 19, 2024
Welcome to another installment of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take quick and fun look at what’s and what’s not in the worlds of sports and sports cards. The real question is, how many people reading this have the new Taylor Swift album buzzing in the background (either by choice or vibrating through the walls from someplace else in the house)?
While the soundtrack might be in the past, the top of the Hot has a foot in the past. 2024 Topps Heritage Baseball continues to be the big product of the moment, wrapping its first full week on the shelves. Sets are being built, variations continue to be checked and Real One Autographs are one of the major chases.
After a week of dropping down the list, Caitlin Clark has returned to the top tier. She’s had a pretty good week, appearing on Saturday Night Live, getting drafted first overall at the WNBA draft and getting a lucrative shoe deal from Nike. If ticket sales around the league are any indication, it’s going to continue to be a big year for women’s basketball. If that’s the case, expect it to carry over to 2024 WNBA basketball cards.
The NHL playoffs are about to begin. Connor Bedard won’t be a part of the postseason but he continues to drive the hockey side of the hobby. This week saw the release of both 2023-24 Black Diamond and 2023-24 Tim Hortons Greatest Duos. The first has lots of high-end cards from the rookie. The latter has a single base card and one that will be very plentiful.
