NASCAR Trivia Thread

RE: NASCAR Trivia Thread
Unfortunately, Dale Earnhardt was ROY in 1979, and he raced earlier in the 70's but not 60's, and of course he died in 2001.

Sterling Marlin was ROY in the early 80's, but he may have raced in the 70's...if he's raced since 2010? Could be...

I'm tapped...can't think of anybody else...

NO to the 1st three, but Morgan is one of them.

(10-24-2014, 03:20 PM)dunnere Wrote: Richard Petty
Cale Yarborough
(Only because there was some mention of him moving to the back at Talladega this year) Terry LaBonte
Dave Marcis (who holds the record for most Daytona 500 starts)

And then guys with a lot of races:
Ricky Rudd
Kyle Petty
Bill Elliott (of all of these guys, I think Bill Elliot is an "I'm pretty sure he raced in the 1970s")
Ken Shrader
R. Petty, T. Labonte, Marcis, & Elliott are all correct. The rest are not.

There are two left, guys.

Dale Sr. and Marlin are not correct either.

You got one more driver. He's right there in the middle!

I just saw this interesting little bit of history a couple of minutes ago. It does involve one of the 5-decade drivers and one of the guesses.

October 25th, 1987: Bill Elliott wins the race at Rockingham while Dale Earnhardt clinches his 3rd career Cup Series title.
Here's a hint for the final driver: His father is in the Hall of Fame.

Richard Petty
Terry LaBonte
Dave Marcis
Bill Elliott
Geoff Bodine
Morgan Sheppard

One to go...
Kyle Petty?
Buddy Baker...went through my Hall of Fame list, that was the only other driver besides Kyle a Petty...

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner. Tom you got the last one and the most drivers, so you get to ask the next question.

Hershel McGriff
Joe Ruttman
Richard Petty
Terry LaBonte
Dave Marcis
Bill Elliott
Geoff Bodine
Morgan Sheppard
Buddy Baker

I was pretty sure you guys wouldn't get the first two. Heck, I've never even heard of McGriff (except the Crime Dog and the MLB player). Big Grin

RE: NASCAR Trivia Thread
Ok, here we go...this might get a bit confusing, but I think we can work through it.

There are four races each year that are considered to be the NASCAR "Majors" and winning all of them would be considered a Grand Slam. They are:

The Daytona 500 (known as the richest race on the circuit, held in February at Daytona)
The Talladega 500 (known as the fastest race on the circuit, held in late April or early May at Talladega)
The Coca-Cola 600 (known as the longest race on the circuit, held Memorial Day weekend at Charlotte)
The Southern 500 (known as the oldest super speedway race on the circuit, held at Darlington Raceway on Labor Day weekend from 1950-2003. In November in 2004 it was discontinued...it's coming back in 2015)

No one has won a Grand Slam in the same season, but there are Eight (8) drivers who have a Career Grand Slam. Name them.

Note: I know things are different, and there is talk of adding or changing a Major, but consider the November 14, 2004 Southern 500 as the final Fourth Major race. And Talladega is now the Aaron's 499.
