2022 Season - Will it be a Gem Mint Banger?

Seriously, I am pretty sure if you bet a dollar on there being a match up between teams with Geno Smith and Brock Purdy starting in the playoffs before the season started you'd now own the casino.  Maybe even more than that, the odds against that had to be astronomical.

The Lions did indeed match my prediction of being playoff contenders -  a winning record was big for them.

You can at least laugh at the Packers for knocking them out of the playoffs

Apparently somebody believed that Seattle under Geno Smith could make it to the playoffs - Smith made $3.5 million in roster bonuses thanks to him becoming starting QB for Seattle and leading them to the playoffs.

He should send a nice fruit basket to the Lions

The playoffs are ready to start

NFC Match Ups

San Francisco v. Seattle - watching Iowa State for the past four years has me wary of Brock Purdy (there is a reason why he was effectively UDFA level) but not this week - Seattle simply is not a good team - the Lions would have been a much better more interesting game

Minnesota v. New York Football Giants - the luckiest team in the NFL will see if their luck continues against a feisty New York Football Giants team - I'm seeing real upset potential here as the Vikings have done poorly against good NFC teams this year. But my thought is that Minnesota heads to San Francisco

Tampa Bay v. Dallas - Tom Brady has made Tampa a trendy upset pick - and he has indeed never lost of Dallas - also, Tampa flattened Dallas earlier this year and Dallas the past few weeks has only a narrow win over the Eagles backup quarterback where they still gave up 34 points. I'm not going for it - Tampa has a losing record and simply is not a good team and Dallas when playing well is fully capable of winning the Super Bowl - Dallas is headed to Philadelphia

AFC Picks:

Cincinnati v. Baltimore - this one seems like a pretty clear Cincinatti win - but the Ravens will play tough even though I just don't think the talent is there on offense - Burrow marches on

Buffalo v. Miami - much as I would love to see my Skylar Thompson autograph cards become Gem Fire Banger Bros cards (and how fun it will be) it is impossible to imagine Miami even making this competitive

Jacksonville v. San Diego - most intriguing matchup of the weekend (although I think the Giants-Vikings is going to turn out to be a real Gem Fire Banger of a game) - Herbert v. Lawrence. The key here might well be my minor p.c. guy (I've been picking up autos and numbered) Travis Etienne - a lot of people forgot about Etienne after he missed his rookie year, but he can be absolutely electric just like he was at Clemson - Los Angeles doesn't have a similar weapon on offense. Also, Rancho Cucamonga has to cross the country on the road - a much more difficult task - while everyone wants to see Herbert become a huge star in Santa Barbara it might not happen. Key factor - Jacksonville has a Super Bowl winning coach and San Pedro doesn't. And as an Eagles fan, I can't possibly pick against having a Dougie P. versus Andy Reid second round matchup

I've got everything written down on paper.

49ers beat Seahawks 24-7
Chargers beat Jaguars 17-12
Bills beat Dolphins 30-17
Giants beat Vikings 31-8
Bengals beat Ravens 28-15
Buccaneers beat Cowboys 21-17

Cheering for the Bills (familial connection), Giants (Daniel Jones), and 49ers (CMC). The only teams I want to see go down are the Chiefs (bye), Cowboys, and Bucs, with those latter two playing each other. Other than that, as long as there are entertaining games, I'm all in!

Austin Ekeler is a pretty solid back for San Diego.

Er, Los Angeles.

On another note, did you see the Brock Purdy cards on the Leaf website?

49ers uni (albeit without logos), but there’s a Pro Set RC for $7.99 and an auto for $169.99.

I’m not a big fan of the auto design, too busy for me, but given the prices of his autos right now (especially after today’s win over the Seahawks), that’s a bargain at the moment.

I did order one of the RCs, though … it’s a nice looking card, hopefully it’s the same thick, glossy card stock of their previous cards.

They do a really nice job in general and I am rooting for them to get licensed someday.
