1997-98 Upper Deck #18 Michael Jordan

1997-98 Upper Deck #18 Michael Jordan
Can someone adequately explain the difference between:

1) 1997-98 Upper Deck #18 Michael Jordan
2) 1997-98 Upper Deck Game Dated Memorable Moments #18 Michael Jordan

...are they not literally the same card? i am not aware that there were two different upper deck sets, one being regular and the other being "game dated" as the cards are identical. Wasn't there only one set? Like, i can't buy a box of regular upper deck and different box of game dated, right? Can anyone help to clarify?

This can be very confusing but the 2nd one is actually a foil parallel. The picture on the front of the card has a foil background to it and it's super rare. Upper Deck did a horrible job by not better identifying the card, but Beckett made it even more confusing by not simply calling it a FOIL parallel. This has lead to many people being mistaken about which card they have, or getting excited thinking that they have the rare version because the base and rare both say "Game Dated" on the card.
I have shown pictures below for reference. Note the background of each picture, as that's the way to tell them apart.

...based on this picture, despite the label, would you say that it is the foil version or the regular base version:

That is the regular version. Unfortunately, both PSA and Beckett graded a number of these cards and labeled them with the "Game Dated" even though they aren't the foil version. It makes it very difficult for collectors who are simply trusting the label on the PSA/Beckett slab.
